Same bow different trim levels
#1 Option $450. Diamond wood riser. Black glass over Actionwood limbs.
#2 Option $550. Choice of riser wood with one lamination. Clear glass over either Bamboo, Natural Actionwood or Brown Actionwood limbs.
Opinions?
Like options especially indestructible bamboo resiliency.
Any bamboo is a good thing. Smooth and fast.
My 2 cents.
Matt
Tough call...bamboo is great but there is some truth in the performance increases of black glass. Done right, option 1 can look as sharp an classy as any bow.
Bamboo - Smooth, stable, good feel and cast. The baseline go to wood for straight end longbows with narrow, thick limb cores.
Action Wood - Strong, reliable, responds and recovers very quickly. Go to wood for thin, wide limbs.
IMHO

Number 1.
Tough call there, all else being equal. Flip a coin.
Ric O'Shay said it all.
I like bamboo. The feel of the draw suits me.
Well, this is a wider thinner limbed bow and I hear Action Wood is under rated. Don't really need a purdy riser and I have never had a black glass bow. Wonder how the black glass will hold up over time?

#2 I Would have to go with the Bamboo!
I have two of the same bows with both combos,it's a toss up.
why can't you do bamboo with black glass, I have a few bows in that combo and I like them very well !!!

I choose option 1, I'm more a utilitarian type myself and don't need to put lipstick on a pig. Ha
#2 with 'boo!
The clear glass with bamboo will look the best and probably shoot just a bit better than the other choices sooo um I guess I would go with the boo.

There are many post on TG about appearance problems with clear glass. Black glass is the same color throughout and will be there "till the cows come home". Black glass is the proverbial "anvil" among all the others.

I will take door #2.
Option # 1 all the way.
I would easily give up the look of clear glass (as nice as it can sometimes be!) for the little extra performance of black glass. On a hunting bow with the right riser color, black glass can be a very nice "accent" indeed.
Joshua, who hunts a custom longbow with black glass over an elm and bamboo core.
Todd,
Not to confuse the issue at all but my current goto bow is an R/D with black glass over bamboo cores. This bow is butter smooth through the draw cycle and has blistering speed. I'm amazed everytime I shoot it, that is when I can keep my friends hands off of it. :)

I am going with option 1.
Looks better and will probably shoot better.

Well, the bow options I am talking about are for a Zach/ Byron Ferguson Z58 R/D Longbow 66" 55@28. I have decided to go with the standard Diamond wood riser and Black glass. Option #1. My bows right now are all clear glass and having the black will be a nice contrast. Chromebuck, thanks for the photo!
The nicest looking to most people would be clear glass over bamboo laminations (if your question about bamboo included laminations over the cores) covering bamboo cores, but after that I personally would pick either clear or black glass over bamboo cores, depending on what looked best. I like the feel of bamboo cores better than Actionwood, but either makes a very nice core. Forget the speed claims -- there won't be more than 2-3 fps difference between any of the combinations you describe, and that could go any direction depending on the particular pieces of material and the way they work in the bow design you are thinking of buying. It's all good, just get what looks best to you. Your pick of the standard Diamondwood riser and black glass sounds perfect if it is what you think looks best. After all, it's YOUR bow!

Bamboo feels a little smoother to me....but if money is an issue I'd go with choice #1 ....no worries...it will get the job done!

I would do #2, but I bet the freezer will be just as full with #1.
Another vote for the bamboo!
