Hey Fellas!
I'm shooting a 28 inch 50 lb recurve. I shoot left handed and have about a 24-24.5 inch draw.
Arrows are Beman Bowhunter 500s cut at 29.5 inches.
With 125 grain tips I shoot descent bullet holes.
BUT!
I would like to shoot more weight up front. So I tired out some 175 grain tips an was getting a tear right bout 2-3 inches long.
I've read quite a few tuning guides and I believe I have to stiffen the spine of the arrow since I am shooting left handed and getting a tear right. I think I will have to cut the arrow down little by little until I achieve an adequate bullet hole with the 175 grain tips.
Before I start cutting up an arrow, I wanted to run it by you all and see what you guys think! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Sean
If you add weight to the pointy end (that 50 grain heavier point) to get back to the same spine as before you'll have to cut the arrow down as you write above. Of course you have a lot of room to do so.
Or add tailweight.
Heatshrink tubing instead of wraps is a good way to add 25 grains or so.
If you are left handed a tear right means you are too stiff. Most guides are written with right handed in mind, you would read it opposite. I'm rt. handed and a tear rt. means weak for me. Either use more weight or lengthen arrow.
I believe it is a weak spine with the tear right. It would be the same as the arrow leaving the bow with the nock end flying away from the riser...too weak of spine shaft
I shoot a Bear Grizzly 58" 50#@28" my draw is 25". My arrows are Goldtip 1535 Traditionals are tuned with 3x5" feathers cut 27 1/4"and 225 gr points up front. They shoot like darts. I would them down and add some weight.
He is left handed, everything is opposite.
Right hand shooter; left tear, too heavy spine,rt. tear weak spine. Simlpy reverse that!
At 24"-24.5" you are only drawing 40, maybe 42#. 500's sound way stiff, especially with 125gr. points. At what distance are you getting bullet holes through paper?

I was shooting bullet holes with 125 grain tips. 175 grains tips did a tear right. I was about 6 feet away when shooting.
pdk25, thank you ,I guess figuring it out in my mind I got it turned around. As we age we can become confused, duh.
I started off confused, but I am hoping to grow out of it. I only knew this one cuz I'm a lefty too.
