I received six 160 grain Grizzly's today. I will admit I had all but given up on two blade heads but I am very excited about giving these a try on some critters. I was also hesitant on trying a single bevel as I have read a lot about they were impossible to get sharp. Well let me tell you, you haven't tried these heads with this angle. Those of you that know me know I am sharpening challenged and I am telling you I swiped these heads maybe a dozen times and they are hair popping sharp. The gring is absolutely perfect. I have never gotten a head this sharp with little effort. My 13 year old daughther could sharpen these things. I do have a KME sharpener to make it much easier, but seriously these things got scary sharp with very little effort. I glued them into the 75 grain steel adapters and they all spun perfectly which is a plus. I also really like the tonto tip. I don't think there will be any issues with it curling.
Ok that's all great but if they don't fly they don't make the cut to the quiver right? First two shots they flew like bullets. I actually stipped a fletch off my first shaft at around 18 yards. Needless to say they are very impressive and I have three of them in the quiver and ready for turkey season which opens tomorrow here in the Bluegass.

Those are very interesting to me. I hope they get online ordering up soon.
I too can get this broadhead sharper than any other I have used. They do get scary sharp!!
Those thinks look awesome. I think I'll have some in the quiver next year
I hope you get a proper field test tomorrow Tom!
Rob
If you don't mind me asking, where would a feller pick up a dozen of those at ?
Tom,
I have been looing hard at them as well. Keep us posted on your thoghts on them.
Can't wait to get mine. Hopefully the pre-orders will be here by our opener which is May 1st..hint...hint :bigsmyl:
Fred Ron has his machine switched over to the Kodiak's now. He is grining the preorder heads. As soon as he is able to get them ground. I'll send them on to their new homes.Trust me when I say I want to get them out to you just as bad as you want to have them.
Ron has done alot of fine tuning on his machine to get these heads ground this nice.As good as the first batch was these heads are FAR better.
We got the new packaging material in this week.No more plastic bags! :jumper:
Bill
Thanks Bill...

James, Call Bill at Grizzly Broadheads. Here is the website.
www.grizzlybroadheads.com/products.html (http://www.grizzlybroadheads.com/products.html)
It will be a little while before he has all sizes but website has a list of the heads he will carry.
My first batch from Kalamazoo had some rough spots but that was from the January batch and they still sharpened up great. Looking forward to the new and improved!
Hey Tom, I expect to see pics of a gobbler skewered by one of them grizzly's. :biglaugh: :archer2:
Fred, sitting in the truck at the moment watching the beautiful spring rain. Doppler shows it won't be long and I'll be back out after them. Fantastic morning.
Next year I'm swimmin the river so I can hunt earlier.
Got mine earlier this year from 3 Rivers Archery and they weren't as easy to sharpen with the KME as the new batch appears to be.
I did ask Ron for his advice but they are still no where as sharp as I would like my broadheads to be. The problem appears to be an edge that has a slight bow along its length.
Having said that, they fly well and I deliberately thumped one into a brick wall and the point did not curl at all!
Have a good hunt!
Dodger, those heads were from old stock. These mew ones arent like that. The grind is perfect.
I have had great success with the old ones and just ordered my new batch from Zipper days ago. Can't wait to check the new ones out. Good luck with the birds TJ.
Thank you, TJ. Will definitely give them another try.
Hey...I'm in the batch for the Kodiaks.....
Just curious, these look like one piece heads...or do the two pieces go all the way across?
I don't see the cutout like the old ones had.
Lookin Good!
Terry, they eliminated the cut out.It is still two pieces of die formed steel laminated together, but as you said, they go all the way across. In addition, the ferrule is way more true than the old 190's etc. They really mount up and spin nicely with little to no messing around. And now they have improved the grind.I need to order some myself.
Dodger, that bow you speak of wasn't from the grind, IMO.. I suspect they warped either during heat treat or lamination.. I hope the new ones don't have that issue..
Hey Dodger, Pat B. may be right. If it is the cutting edge that has a slight bow to it. If thats the case I will gladly replace that head.
These broadheads are heat treated in 100# batches. There is almost always some that get bent when moving between the furnace and quench tank. We do go through them several times between heat treat and packaging but its not imposable for one with a slight bow to get past us. So you see its not an issue of a whole batch getting a slight bow. Its a few out of a few thousand. :D
Bill
Bill will you be bringing them to Denton Hill this July?
Glenn
I can't wait to get some of these into my grubby little paws. They look much improved.
I just got mine in the other day. WOW! These heads are super easy to sharpen, keep an edge, and mount up on adaptors super easy! Keep up the great work Bill!
I'm glad I preordered 2 dozen Kodiaks.. I hope they are popular enough that Bill is able to keep them online.. If not, I'll be using the standard 160's, great broadheads..
Thanks Pat. It never occured to me the bow may have been caused during the heat treat and explains why they were difficult to straighten.
Bill: Yes, the bow is along the cutting edge. Thanks for the offer but I will use these for practice. Also, thanks for bringing them back on the market as I was always curious to try them after reading so much about them. Is the new grind similar to the Grizzly BH shown in TJ's pics?
Intriguing head, which has me curious with a couple questions. After viewing the web page states glue-ons but photo provided show inserts. So is the Black Grizzly 160 grains with or without the insert, and if no insert, can they be purchased with inserts preglued? Also, are they left wing single grind or right?
And are they ground exact to the KMT sharpener?
Thanx for any info...
Zbone, No I put those 75 grain steel adapters in them. Bill is eventually going to offer adapters but doesn't at this time. The head weights are all WITHOUT the adapters. The ones I have a right beveled. The way to tell is when the head is laying down with the point away from you the bevel will be on the right or the left.
On my first try I marked the grind with a black marker so I could see where the metal was be sharpened and the KME broadhead sharpener hits the back and leading edge of the grind. Almost like the grind is a little cuped. But I am telling you they get unreal sharp in very little time.
The bevel or edge seems "cupped" or hollow ground because they are ground on a round wheel so the edge takes on the radius of the wheel or grinding drum. That would be my guess.
Good looking head for sure! I may have to rethink single bevels myself...
Good luck on the Turks Tom.
I think u r right Pat and looks to me like after a few sharpenings they will meet and be flat.
Thanx for the info Tom... Can or will they be purchased or ordered in left bevel?
Zbone, left bevel will be available. That's what I ordered also.
What's the price?

SO, will they be on display at any of the big shoots this summer like ETAR or Comptons?
Here is a graphic I did for the site, this may help to have a visual of size and color coding.

What is the difference between the Grizzlies and the Kodiacs?
Is it just the length? Those 200 Kodiacs look interesting to me.
cant wait to get my 200gr Kodiaks...and try them this year for some deer unless I see a big hog first. ;)

Longer and a 1/16" wider. Check the link to the site for all the specs.
We will have broadheads at all of the shoots we attend (Baltimore, Denton, Cloverdale). That is if we have heads on hand at that time. We have not yet been able to get our dealers properly supplied. I can assure you we are doing all we can to make sure there are more than enough broadheads long before deer season gets here.
Bill
I'll be trying the 200's on turkey's come Wednesday.
Good luck Bruce, :campfire:
Remember, pictures are required or it didn't happen.
These are great heads and Bill and Tracy are great people.
Mike, The weight difference is from different metal thickness'. Here are the blade thickness' of each broadhead.
Kodiak 200 and Grizzly 160 have .050 thick blade
Kodiak 170 and Grizzly 140 have a .040 thick blade
Grizzly 130 has a .036 blade
Grizzly 120 has a .030 blade
well done Tom!
I should be getting some 160 Kodaiks soon
