We all have had those frustrating bowhunts for turkeys where everything that can go wrong does go wrong. In fact it seems like that many times is the true nature of bowhunting for turkeys. My hunt Easter morning was not one of those kind of hunts. I have killed quite a few turkeys with my bow since I managed to finally arrow the 1st one back in 2004 but I have never had a hunt go as seamlessly as the one this Sunday. My blind was set up from the day before which had been the opening day of the SD archery turkey season. The winds blew in excess of 30 mph all day (many times in considerable excess) and I did not see or hear a turkey. I got into the blind at 10:15 am on Sunday morning. It took me about a minute to set up my little video camera and get settled. My first series of calls was immediately answered by a chorus of gobbles. I called again and could tell I had multiple turkeys incoming! I took a peek out of the blind and saw 3 jakes on a dead run. I start the camera recording and await developments. The jakes held up momentarily out of my vision and had gone silent. I hit the slate call again and I get an instant response and can tell they are coming to my setup. One jake is all puffed up and comes between me and the decoys only to be greeted with a 160 grain Snuffer attached to a 600 grain arrow. He runs and flops about 40 yards or so and is done. Time now 10:20 am! I was using my BigEast bow that I have named old reliable.
This is how I found him.

Very nice! Great shooting and a very cool video. Congrats.
Thanks again folks for all the compliments! I have had several questions about my equipment, especially my video camera. I think many will be surprised at what I am using for a video camera.
First of all, my bow is my BigEast recurve that is 62" long and just shy of 60lbs at my draw length. The arrows are Axis 400 with 125 gr brass inserts, 5" shield cut feathers and a 160 gr Snuffer (actually 185 gr with the screw in adapters).
My video camera is a dual digital camera/ video camera that I bought at Radio Shack for just a little more than $100.00. It is only slightly larger than my cell phone. It takes 10 megapixel digital pictures and HD digital video footage. It also has a 5 power optical zoom. It is a Sanyo Xacti. It really takes great pictures and videos for something so small and relatively inexpensive. This is a picture of the camera in my hand for scale.
