Good day to be out in the blind.I put the turkeys to bed last night and set up down the draw from where they would pitch in the morning. At 6:40(in the very a.m.)three jakes left the tree that is in the background.I gave a few get to know ya yelps, and they came runnin.Five min. later the turkey was in the decoys, and then my arrow was in him!!
I got to thank Vince Smith for making this all happen,I had been talking to Vince for several years about making my own longbow and hunting with it.Well, last year Vince told me I was going to do it,and that he found the wood combo that i was looking for.Over the next month, with Vince's help,i got to learn how to grind lams, shape the riser, glue it all up and shape, sand shape,sand-several time, then finish(i will never complain about bow prices ever again, they don't charge enough!)The final product is a 60"longbow pulling 66# at my draw.I have no name for the bow yet but she is smooth and whisper quiet....and very deadly. She shoots a 750gr. goldtip arrow like it has a rocket in the tail.
Awesome job.I hope to build my own 1 day .Congrats.Thanks for sharing

Cool bird and bow! Congrats!
Well done!!!!
Congrats!!
Good job, you can smile now !
Like Paul Harvey would say...and this is the rest of the story. First of all I was a witness to all that was said. Yes he did make the bow with the help of Vince Smith. Yes the bow is whisper quiet. (I am a very critical person, anyone who knows me can say that) I would have to say we put them to bed the night before. That was a team effort. Most importantly...Sometimes its not all about the kill...in my case it was getting to go hunting with my younger brother. It has been far too many years since we have hunted together. We started out that way. Learning how to hunt turkeys with the stick and string. Two pretty large boys in one blind with his 72in Longbow and my 66 in Longbow. Pretty comical actually. And now we were finally able to hunt together once again. I hope we can continue to do it in the future. For me today was all about the time spent. I have been fortunate to hunt a lot of game in many places. But I would honestly have to say this hunt meant more to me than any of those hunts. Congrats little bro on making such a fine bow and getting that bird.
Way to go .Thats realy cool stuf. :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:

I found a pic from lasy year, actually the first kill for my bow. There is not anything on this world better than hunting with friends and family, the kill is only a bonus(however i would never not take the shot,if it's a good one).
Way to go!! There's nothing better than killing an animal with a bow that you made!
I would have to say that I am a turkey junky, not much more I would rather hunt.I am just lucky enough to have my kids to take with me,and a brother who was willing to start the journey with me.The number of hours spent scouting, and just learning about them was daunting, but with my brother's ability to research, and the time we spent in the blind together,I think we are starting to get it down perty good.Better yet,I seem to remember him talkin about gettin his longbow ready for the next chapter of the story.
:notworthy: WAY TO GO!!!
