Had a couple of great mornings in the Turkey woods. Yeaterday I hunted my blind in a open edge. Had a couple Turkeys gobble but could not get a response. It was windy and I`m not sure they could hear me. I had a hen decoy in front of me and called a bit every 15 minutes or so. I had almost dozed off when I looked up and a Turkey was standing about 25 yards away. It walked beside the blind and in between me and the decoy and I could not get a shot because the window was to high. After a few minutes it was about ten yards away and a Simmons hit on the money and a young Jake was flopping. It ran about 15 yards out of sight and was down. I had left my camera and most all of my Turkey stuff in the truck and my wife had gone to the inlaws to 'Move" stuff so I did not get a pic.
This morning I went to the same place with a gobble call and a slate. I could get some volume from that in case the birds were on the otherside of the creek again. The day before all I had was a mouth call and could not call loud enough as all my other calls were in the truck.
Long story short I called one Tom in to 20 yards or so He circled the Decoys...I had a primos jake and hen out. He got really spooky and started to leave. I ruched my shot. Touched the top of the blind with my bow and totally wrecked my focus and missed him.Called in another that would not get under 30 yards. He also was spooked and would not come in close. Called in another from the opposite side of the woods that came within 20 yards but would never come around to the window side of the blind. He stayed from 8:30 till 11:00 and would gobble everytime I yelped. He finally walked off at around 12:00. I snuck out and will be on them again tomorrow Lord Willing. Turkeys 3 RC 1.RC
Wonder if those last 3 birds know how lucky they are? Not much gets by RC without a couple holes in it. Looking forward to tomorrows story.

Thanks guys. I gotta tell you I am struggling to get it together and I`m hunting "easy" private land birds. This year I have had 17 longbeards under 30 yards and have only killed a Jake.Purty poor. JoeBuck and Guru would need a new freezer.RC
RC, congrats! A floppin' jake is trophy in my book  If you, Joe Buck and Guru came here to visit our critters would be on the endangered list :)
Congrats to you.
Way to go. Killing turkeys is fun.
Congrats RC!
Tracy
Atta Boy Robert!! Congrats!! With that many birds in range, I'd need more arrows :)
