Title: Cleaning / Dying Raw Feathers
Post by: Hummer3T on April 10, 2012, 06:55:00 PM
I just got a bag of turkey feathers from a friend that owns a turkey farm. I have about 50-70 feathers, they are dirty and a little bloody, what would you guys suggest for cleaning, I was thinking of soaking in hot water and borax, then dying and treating with silicon.

I'm not sure if this is going to do anything to the feathers?
what would be best?
What type of dye should I use?
how is it done? Could not find any.

Any past videos or how-tos on this site?

In the How to is a good thread on dying. I have cleaned processed feathers with soap and hot water and it works.Check with snag( a member here) about processing. I know bred turkey feathers are a bit different in that they dont lay like wild turkey feathers do.
