Title: Removing Limbsaver silencers?
Post by: Bobby Urban on April 10, 2012, 07:49:00 AM
For those that have used them do they wear out, get firm over time and loose effectiveness?  Have you removed any and how?  What is the adhesive that is holding them in place?  I am thinking a little heat but thought I would check here to see if anyone has a little trickeration thay have found useful.

I don't think they wear out...they might break/rip. Ive seen that before on some that were being used in 70# compounds. To remove them just relax your string and slip them right out, there is no "glue" or anything....string pressure just holds them in place. If you cant relax your string you could use a string seperator just to relieve some tension in your string and slide them in or out. FWIW, Ive found that rubber cat whiskers are quieter....
I just thought of something, If your talking about the limbsavers dampners, I dont believe they wear out either....I know they make a couple different variations of them now with the "mushroom" functioning part sliced accross so it dampens more vibrations....About removing them...the ones that Ive taken off limbs pulled right off ( didnt fall off) but with a little pressure they come off pretty easy- no heat was necessary...

Thanks OAS but I am talking about the ones that I taped/glued to the limbs.  Not string silencers.

No biggie though - the guys on sickbow got it covered.

Ya, thats the ones I was talking about in the second part of my post...The Limb dampners...They should pull off with a little bit of effort.

Unless I am totally loosing my mind I think you added to your post after or as I posted my reply.  If so, that was completely a timing thing because I had just signed on and responded and your post now answers my question.

I hope I am not loosing my mind???  It was so hard to find the last time it happened and I still don't believe I got it all back  :)

Thanks for the help

slide a piece of fishing line stretched between your hands under the silencer ans separate the adhesive from the limb. Never seen one wear out. thin 2 sided tape to secure.
