Howdy gangers,
I just bought an American Leathers Elk Big Shot shooting glove. I do like shooting with it, except for a few things. The first is the feel of course, harder to get consistent finger placement but not impossible. The worst thing is the Nylon has worn a good size patch of skin off my face. The things I like about it are that I get no finger pinch and no sore fingers! Just want to hear what everyone uses for gloves, pros/cons. Please no glove bashing or "just shoot a tab!" comments, thanks.
The Big Shot was the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for me.
Had been a tab guy and went thru seven different gloves over numerous years until finding one that shot with similar results to my tabs.
I really like a traditional style cordovan glove with inserts. Bateman makes a nice one.
I've tried a bunch also and for some reason I keep going back to a Martin glove. A little thicker than a Damascus but not as thick as a super glove I have.
I got a Buffalo Big Shot a few weeks ago, I like it but not completely used to it yet. My favorite is the 3R Dura Glove, before that the Grizzly but you cant get them anymmore. I like the Cordura fingers.

Hi Curtis, I've tried every glove out there and the "BEST" one going as far as I'm concerned is the Deer Skin glove sold by Kustom King Archery. This glove is $22.95 in their on-line catalog and has the "European Cordovan" finger tips. I've had it for a year now, shooting continually and no visable wear on the glove. The bow string doesn't hurt my fingers at all (53# bow) but you can still feel the string to get the same location on your fingers. I really think you'd be happy with this glove and the sizes seem to be good, I use a large, the same as any other glove I've had. Hope this helps,...Lloyd :wavey:
I've got the buffalo big shot. It took me a while getting use to the nylon but I like it now especially as I slowly increase bow weight and over time the nylon creased for a more consistent finger placement also.
I like both the Superglove and the BearPaw Speed glove. Good fit. Feel right for me.
I use a tab most of the time but when it is time for a glove I pull out a 3rivers duraglove.
Once the stall conform to your fingers finger placement will be perfect every time.
I just bought the cordovan traditional archery glove from 3rvrs and it's my top choice now. Takes a bit to break in but it offers great protection and a very smooth release.
Curtis,
When I buy a glove the first thing I do is remove the finger tips. I like to feel my fingers when I come to full draw.
Like medic, I also like the Martin glove. It gives enough protection to shoot a 45-50# bow all day but is soft enough it still gives a good feel when I shoot my wife's 30#'er.
Another vote for 3rivers duraglove
The Big Shot is the best glove I have found. No reason to look for another.
Bill
I like the duraglove alot.. Also have a full shot but i dont like the stitching inside the stalls..
I have two Duragloves and like it except the fingers have twisted. Just ordered the Big Shot and waiting for its arrival.
3 Rivers Duraglove...
I've been shooting the Duraglove from 3 Rivers, and while I like it,it does tend to groove or crease.I would like to try a Big Shot glove next.
Tried many gloves and tabs but stopped my search when I got a Big Shot Glove .
I ordered a Duraglove from 3 rivers and it's been on back order for over a month
May I ask Which Bateman Glove and Why that Choice??
The Black Widow Stic-Tite with nylon fingers is my tops. The way it fits on the hand may seem weird to some but I've never worn something more comfortable.
I am a Martin glove as well. As has already been stated it just seems to strike the right balance.
I've tried others (not the Big Shot though) but can't get used to them at all.
I like the Bateman STGC for the full cordovan finger stalls, lining, and inserts. Excellent protection and great durability. Slick release.
Same with Sporthunter. The 3R traditional, which is made by NEET. It is the same style as the Batement, except it is regular leather with cordovan plates on the finger tips. The Bateman's are all cordovan I believe. I'd like to try 'em.

That is true. The finger stalls are all cordovan on the Batemans I have I think you'd be hard pressed to find a more durable glove. The nocking point, a tradgang sponsor, has em.
I don't know if others have found this, but the 3R/NEET trad gloves run very large, and I like them to fit tight on my fingers. They stretch with oil treatment. I normally shoot extra large and I'm now shooting the large. The stitching is coming off the middle finger cordovan plate after a year -- an easy fix -- but I'm going to get a medium instead, and I have sausage fingers. The NEET's are adjustable in length and wrist diameter. I don't think the Bateman's are adjustable in length.
Super Glove by alaskan bowhunting supply, works for me
Any of the big shot shooters have a problem with the nylon rubbing skin off? Its my biggest concern right now as it gets painful after a while. Good to hear about the the 3rivers gloves. Read a few reviews on the super glove. Like the characteristics of the glove but everyone says qaulity control isnt up too par?
Bearpaw speed glove.
Slightly off topic but I'm just curious what are the pros and cons of shooting a glove over a tab..?
I only play around with traditional tackle and have always used a tab when I do... However I've become more serious with traditional and am thinking about trying out a glove
I've never shot a big shot glove, but I've been shooting a Black Widow stik-tite glove for the last couple of weeks and it's a winner for me. Thicker than a deer skin or duraglove but nowhere near as stiff as a cordovan. It's the perfect balance for me of protection and feel for my low 50's draw weight bows.
Got Duraglove of my size and its been good.. I can feel the string and flawless release.

I just ordered a BW Stic tite.. I like the dura glove but the skinny string on my 56# er burns my fingers a little

I should mention that I got the regular one without the nylon tips. I'll be ordering another one shortly...figured I'd better start breaking another in because it takes about a weeks worth of shooting everyday to get those stalls formed in and flexible.
I shot a Damascus glove for nearly 20 years. My fingertips stayed sore. Then two years ago I switched over to the Traditional Glove with the cordovan overlays sold by 3 Rivers. They took some breaking in but offered a good release. However, after a few months, both pair that I bought stretched and they became very loose on my fingers even to the point they would fly off when the arrow was released. Made for some very ugly shots.
So, I traded a few emails with Steve Turay (Northern Mist). He turned me on to the Bateman Gloves. I called their shop and spent 35 to 40 minutes on the phone discussing gloves, fit and feel and open finger tips to facilitate finding anchor. They made me a custom glove Model STGC and I had it two days after the phone call. Long story shorter... best glove I've ever owned. Bateman will be a vendor at the Chester Shoot in May and I intend on buying as least two more from them at that time.

Curtis if the nylon on the finger tips are rubbing your skin, then you are most likely probably short drawing slightly and snapping the finger stalls back into your face upon release, try to settle in just a bit before releasing and make sure you are at full draw and pushing/pulling and you should lessen that irritation. With a good release from anchor your glove hand should move back and away from your face. If your release just in front of your face you are pulling your release hand directly into your face.
I have no problem with my Big Shot gloves and face rub unless I release short of anchor, then I know I did something wrong!
I did the same thing Ric O shay did I called bateman and told him what I liked and what I didn't in my gloves. I also shoot american leathers gloves which i really like but I like the feel of cordora but I only tried them in tabs and I dont like tabs. So after talking to bateman we decided on a size and a glove and like 5 days later I got it in the mail. It was a little stiff when I first got it but I shot it a few times and than put on some leather stuff I got from curt on this site who makes the awesome arm guards and now the glove is the bomb, no finger pinch or sore fingers, the glove feels better everytime I shoot it. Just give bateman a call they are very nice people and glad they are a sponsor here.
Mark, I dont think Im short drawing. There is a video of me shooting in the form forum under "Form Critique Please" that would tell you if I am short drawing, maybe Im not seeing it lol.
Damascus - its thin and gives me a great feel on the string, which I like. I honestly don't know if I could shoot anything else.
Ric O'Shay
Stick-Tite-Super Glove from Black Widow is the best glove I've used in a long time. I like to feel the string but if every shot is hurting my fingers then it's kind of easy to fall into some kind of target panic. The Stick-Tite-Super Glove allows for enough feel and no pain.
I was using the Damascus, but by sheer happenstance, I used a Cordovan style for a backup one evening, and I love it. It is even sized correctly for me, but I just like the feel way better than anything else.
I like the Damascas. I've tried many other gloves and tabs but, for some reason I always go back. I think it;s a great glove. (nut)
I have the Elk Big Shot and I really like it. It is a lot thinner that the Bateman insert glove I had been using so my fingers were sore for awhile. I wish it wasn't so warm to wear in summer though.
