The GW wolfskin in predator fall brown (much better than deception, keep with the original) has really caught my attention. I'm in the market for new pants, and I've heard GW has great customer service and they have fall brown!
My question is, doees the wolfskin material have a shine to it?? and what temperatures is it best suited for? I;ve never seen it nor hunted with someone who has.
any advice/info on the fabric would be greatly appreciated.
Keep the trad fire burning!
The Wolfskin has no shine at all to it and is very quiet. It also sheds rain fairly well. Unless it is a real downpour it will keep you dry. Amazing material!
I agree with you on the fall brown - it is my favorite pattern.
As far as temperatures go, I wear it from the warmest days, including hunting in the mountains and desserts, right on down to about 40 degrees or so with some layering underneath. You could even continue layering more to go even colder, but I have a set of Gray Wolf wool for when it dips that low.
Another thing you are right about is the customer service - top notch all the way!
I have it in the lined. No shine. Nice soft finish that doesn't hold burrs. My set is lined, and is good down to around 25 degrees or so, and is pretty fair at blocking wind too. And it is quiet, no rustling, or crinkling, even when cold. Had mine for nearly ten years and still going strong. One of the few products I've ever bought that actually lived up to it's advertising.
I thought mine seemed a little bright at first, but wearing them actually improved them. They are tough and dry quickly. I bet Jeff will send you a sample piece.
Whip has it correct!
I have several patterns, and I do find that the spring green was shiny before the first couple washings. After that it "dulled" up. The other patterns didn't seem to have much shine in Wolfskin. I wore the unlined pants in Alaska (temps 40-65). Not much that is tougher then wolfskin.

Great fabric-- stays soft even in the cold and doesn't fade over time. Rugged, too.
Anyone have a picture of it?

Thanks for all the info and opinions on GW's wolfskin!
Your making my decision easy :)
Order early, just an fyi, Jeff gets backed up near fall. Everything is hand sewn, you will not be dissapointed.
excellent stuff. be sure to check out his returns on his website sometimes you can find a good deal in there without the wait
Anyone have experience with the "new wolfskin"? or wolfskin XT? I ask just because I was in the market for some new duds and they sent me samples of fabric. Seems they were looking for a new fabric supplier and the old (read awesome) wolfskin wasn't being produced anymore. The newer fabric didn't resemble it much. I'd love to hear from someone that recently bought some that can confirm that the new material is still O.K.
I also had Jeff send me some fabric samples. the new wolfskin is lighter, more breathable, has some stretch, and has a sheen to it. The old wolfskin had no sheen and was heavier, less breathable, and less stretch. The new wolfskin looks to be very durable. I have some of the old wolfskin in the intrusion deadfall pattern- it is outstanding.
whip i love your photos.
Brown wolfskin is still my favorite camo. Man is this stuff durable too! Ive used mine hard for 8 years, still looks good.
here a great comparison of brown wolkskin, plaid and blob camo...

I have some unlined that must be eight years old by now. It looks as good as it did when it was new. Very nice product
This year I ordered a hibilly bib in the unlined wolf skin for warm weather. My wool hillbilly bibs from Jeff is my favorite garment.
As for GW products, I sold my KIng of the Mountain stuff to buy my wool in the predator pattern and have never regretted it. Jeff does an excellent job.
