I have never been able to go to a Compton or any other "big" trad event b/c they are always too far for me to drive; just wish that there was a way to have a "Compton or Kazoo" event closer to home; (Arkansas); all there is around here are the "wheelie" events; would love to be able to take my grandchildren to a all trad gig; sure hope someone or some club starts one "in the south"; maybe someday...........

Theres several good sized trad shoots in Arkansas. In june the Traditional Bowhunters of Arkansas put on a 2 day 40 Target shoot. And The Ben Pearson Memorial isMay19-20 with many Novelity shoots and a ton of door prizes.
I could be wrong, but I thought Compton's was having an event somewhere in the South this year.
They had one near Birmingham.AL in February, and will have another one there in Feb 2013.
We just had a wonderful event at the Tannehill state park At the end of February.
Check it out,

Go to the Trad events forum and search "Pre-Spring Arrow Fling"
or
Tannehill
or
Comptons
or
All South Archery Association.
You will find many reports and infomation about this past event.
And just to be sure you have notice for next year, Check this out,

We would love to see you there. Great event with a great host and a great setting.

I can't think of a better place to take the grandkids than Tannehill Park. Terry Harris just announced as mentioned above that All-South and Compton will merge again in Feb. 2013 in Mccalla, Al. I know it's a piece from Arkansas but if you ever went to it or the upcoming Howard Hill shoot in early June you would be hooked for life. Shoot $30 for three days and primitive camp $16 bucks and restrooms. The Vendor presence is through the roof and seems to grow every year (always the nicest and most accomadating folk you could meet). I understand your frustration as trad numbers at what few local shoots here are low as well but over the last 4 years I was fortunate enough to have met some local men who at the drop of a hat are willing to get together and shoot. Best wishes!
Possum Head is right - Compton will be associated with the Pre Spring Arrow Fling at Tannehill State Park again next February. Fantastic facility, wonderful people, and we are excited to be headed back there.
We are also open to new associations with groups in other parts of the country as well. Personally, I'd love to eventually see a Compton satellite shoot located within driving distance to everyone in the country!
There is also the McAlester, OK. It is an all traditional shoot, the first full weekend in Aug. It is also a very family oriented.
There is also the Jerry Pierce Memorial shoot in Lake Enid, Mississippi in May. They have several other shoots during the year. There is a large group of us that go down from Missouri every May for that one.
There used to be a big traditional shoot just north of Ozark, Missouri but they haven't had it in a few years now. There is also the Ben Pearson shoot which is held in Pine Bluff, Arkansas each year.
Yep--as noted, there was a Compton's South earlier this year, and the plan is to have it again next year.
Since you missed that one, here is a list of a few more excellent shoots, most with a good selection of vendors to boot.
The Howard Hill (AL), the TN Classic (TN), The Jerry Pierce Memorial (MS), the Catch-a-Dream Charity Tournament (MS), and I'm sure there's a few I can't think of at the moment. These are traditional only, put on by great folks and you'll have a grand time at any of them.

Sounds like there is quite a few options out there to be had.
