I have purchased a new set of Rocky MudSox (neoprene)boots for hunting. I just got them and they are great. The problem is they smell like a rubber factory really bad. Does anyone have any suggestion or home remedy to get rid of the strong rubber smell from boots?
We got some from Cabela's on sale last Fall and they smelled aweful. We put them on the front porch all winter to air them out. I wore mine for the first time a few days ago to do some stumping and they were much better.
Rub them down with some good topsoil(moist) and let them sit with it on for 24hrs or so. Then just rinse them off it should help.
Both good suggestions. Time will cure the smell.
Neoprene will still hold a lot of odor. Ask a surfer what his wetsuits smell like.

Time is the only real cure for the rubber smell....
I agree, leave them out of the box and give them some time. The smell will eventually go away.
I like topics like this. I've spent considerable time pondering the same things.
My first statement is, "I think deer spook at predator scent not rubber scent". With that being said, I would still spend time and effort trying to de-scent something foreign smelling.
Below is a homemade de-scenting solution. Try it if you like.
2 quarts Distilled Water
1.5 quarts Hydrogen Peroxide
.5 cups Baking Soda
1 oz. unscented laundry detergent
After thorough mixing store in bottles that won't let light through. Light will reduce the shelf life of this product. Also keep caps loose for a week because this concoctioin will generate some gas and the bottles may come apart violently. Or the way I like to say it, "Rapid, Random, Disassembly".
I leave them under the porch at the camp all year to air out.

They are hung on the wall up side down
Lol.....KOOK that's what he's up to, possum trapping!
Like the others said leave them outside where they will catch the breeze. Other than that I would not obsess over it. it the deer can smell your boots, they can smell you. keep downwind
I would try baking soda. Put everying in a box outside, with an open box of baking soda. Avoid exposure to sunlight.
I use the baking soda also, sprinkle the inside, add water to make a paste rub on the outside and let it dry
Walk through tall wet grass and muddy ditches in the off season and it "scrubs" alot of the smell off...........
Make a paste from baking soda and cote them. let it dry and sit for few days.. squirt off with water hose and spray down with earth scent killer and put in your scent proof container.
Work around cattle, hogs, or chickens and wear 'em to work in. You won't notice that rubber smell in a few days! :biglaugh:
I some times use garlic to cover odors. Rub it on the boots generously when you go in the woods. I have found that deer like the smell of garlic. I have seen them follow my trail exactly the way I had walked in. They were nose done and seemed very interested. Clean your hands, though. I have had yellow jackets come to it also.
Garlic may be objectionable but not as much as the hog and chicken recipe mentioned above.
Sam Most deer and animal repellents have Garlic as the primary ingredient. I am surprised they follow it.
I sat in a tree for a year and all I could smell was rubber from my boots,so I figured the deer smelled me a mile away,I shot 5 that year all under 15 yards.Dont think it matters.
Fellas let me say I'm knew to traditional but I was born with hunting in my blood... Learn the wind because you can't beat a white-tails nose
