Title: which arrow is better for me ? CX Heritage(90 or 150 ?) or GT Trad 35/55
Post by: Onlyaspike on April 03, 2012, 08:45:00 PM
I know there is ALOT of different varibles but I just picked up a 45# Hoyt Gamemaster 2 and I need some arrows. I used to have a 45# Hoyt Dorado that I shot 29.5" GT 35/55 trads w/ a 145 gr point out of and they seemed to fly great for me. The problem Im having is that the shop I get my arrows from is SOLD OUT of the GT 35/55 trads...but has CX Heritages in stock in sizes 90(.530 spine) and 150(.487 spine)....Ive read quite a bit of good stuff on the CX arrows but I was wondering what spine I should get ? And also, the 90's come with Thunderstorm nocks/inserts where the 150's come with TCX nocks/inserts.....I think the Thunderstorm stuff is lesser quality( they come standard in the CX youth arrows)...Is this something to worry about ? Thanks fella's

I would go with the 150 and about a 150 grain points.

For what it's worth, one of my buds shoots a 50# gamemaster 2, drawing around 28 1/2". He shoots a fairly light (8.75-9 gpp)arrow based on gt 35/55s, and a heavier set up based on ce 150s.

You *might* find that the CX 150 is underspined for your new set-up.   If possible, you should consider comparing a CX 150 vs a CX 250 at your draw length using standard aluminum inserts - you might be surprised by what you discover....

Not sure, but I think a CX250 would be way stiff for a 45# bow.  :campfire:

I have a 45 and 50 lb. recurve and both like the 150's w/125 gr tips.

I have both. I use the 150's to hunt with and the 90's for 3-D. My bows are from 49-52 lbs @ 28". The 150's are 10 gpi and the 90's are 9.4. I believe your Gamemaster shelf is cut past center and either will work well. It all depends on how much weight you want up front and as a total and what you will use them for.  When I hunt I add a brass insert in the 150's. If that is going to be something you want to pursue go with the 150's as you can't get any for the 90's due to the smaller diameter. Fantastic arrows.

I have shot both the GT3355 and CE Heritage 150, each with 100 grain brass inserts and 125 grain heads out of my 50 lb at 26" Dryad ACS.  I have achieved better flight with the 150s.  Both are good shafts but I wouldn't hesitate to give the Heritage 150s a try.

I just bought some GT 35/55's ...Just got ahold of the dealer I know and he said he could get me some .003 GT 35/55 Traditionals shafts( Guess they are new out?) ...so I went with them...they were only $7 more than the Regular Traditional Hunters(.006) and the same price as the CX Heritages that are .006 . Not that the .003 will make a big difference but Ill take the better/ more consistant shaft anyday of the week. Thanks for all the info, I apprieciate it.

For what it is worth, I get better, more consistent flight out of my 46-53# bows using the GT3555 than I do with the CX Heritage 150's.  I also like the fact that they are made in the USA versus I believe Korea for the CX.

Especially with a fairly light head.  250s way stiff if they are not full length

Thanks for all of the feedback gentlemen!

I am sure that you are all way better archers than I am and have the record to prove it, but in my original post I stated that it MIGHT be an observation...and I did not claim to be an expert...just adding my own anecdote for consideration....

I am sure glad to learn that I am shooting the wrong arrow out of my hybrid longbow (KANATI - 29.5" draw length with an estimated ~42# of draw weight, since I do not have a bow scale to check), but the data is what the data is and that is that a 31" CX 250 Heritage fletched 3 x 5" with aluminum adapter and 125 gr points paper tunes per-fect-ly and the game that have succumbed to that combination would probably have preferred a different outcome....

I do prefer a heavier arrow to put some arch in my archery and the added benefit of the properly spined CX 250 is that it is a highly durable shaft when shooting ground grizzlies, rabbits, fox, skunks, raccoons, and the occasional prairie dog or rock chuck....

YMMV...but it sounds like you would just shoot my lights out because my set-up is so bush-league so I'll just mind my own business....

Keep the wind in your face!

Shoot straight, Shinken

The cx heritage series are great arrows.  I use the 250s exusively for my bow.
