Ray,
If I came back this soon-you'd have to just let me move in. The boss lady would move me and all my stuff out of the house.
Spot still open- Phil say it isn't so?????
I can't believe this lasted an hour after your post last week about seeing the biggest living pig you've seen in 30 years of hunting the property!
I'm still in, how many are coming from the Flint troop?
Thom
If anyone is on the fence about making this trip, and you have not read the countless threads about what a great hunt Ray puts on, let me throw one more recommendation out there.
Ray is a fantastic host. He offers great home cooked meals, personal coaching on hog behavior and hunting tactics, and some great campfire stories. No matter your hunting skill level, salty-dog veteran or novice biginner, you are going to gain some more skills here and have a fantastic time.
If I didn't have to work and didn't already have a couple hunts planned that are gonna drain the hunting kitty for the year, I would be all over this last minute opportunity and a truly great weekend.
Five Thom
Thanks for the nice comments bel007!
SOLD- it's an all Michigan group! Thanks Dan
Thom he might reach out to you about driving down together!
Just got off the phone with Ray. Looks like there will be another Michigan boy there.
Woot, Woot!
See ya the 12th!
Dan
Wow! It could be a Leinie's/euchre/Escanaba in da Moonlight/"can I get some milk and sugar for my grits" pig hunting weekend
Always a good time at Ray's, that was a good call Dan!
Thom
More like; "Estill in da Moonlight" eh Thom?
To paraphrase Remnar Soady, "It's like Christmas wit Bows"!
Holy wah. He's everything you'd expect from a guy named Remnar.

Can't wait to see you guys down there!
Thom
If I'd known he was a Remnar when he called I'd have charged him double!!!!! I thought his name was Dan. Must have been an alias :readit:
Hope he doesn't drive a Chebby!!!
I'll bring my copy of EIDM and we'll watch it Friday night if you guys bring a laptop!!!!
I'll bring da "Sweet Sap Whiskey".
I'll see if Sean can pack his laptop.
Ray,
Please tell me you're not going to let someone come into "your" house and put milk and sugar on grits!!!
Phil
Yikes!!!! Well, I put cheese on em, Phil...and sometimes I put sweet buttah, if you know what ahma sayin'?
That's how you eat grits!!! I like eggs and/or ham and redeye gravy mixed in with the cheese and butter. That's Cracker-Florida or Georgia-food!!!
Ah, I'm just causing a little trouble... Besides, who could eat grits when Ray is up every morning at 4am working on them biscuits and gravy?????
Man am I looking forward to this!!!
Thom
Oh Lord, I can tell already its gonna be one of them weekends !!!
Thom,
My grandfather liked his grits with milk and sugar, but then he was from Ithica, NY. I was born and raised in Florida, grits and eggs-with either bacon or ham-just about every morning. Ray's breakfasts were definitely worth waking up to!!
I feel your pain, Mike!
Working on a breakfast casserole recipe
I caught that edit Ray! I'll pass on any casserole involving cheese. :readit:
I figured it might get the thread in trouble if an outsider knew The Code!!!!!
Just hope the oven doesn't catch fire again....
Got a little smokey in da kitchen!
That's the problem with trying to cook in the dark and having bad eyes as well.
I never saw that dripping from the last evening's meal onto teh aluminum foil liner until it was too late.
Thankfully I won't make that mistake again- just different ones!!!!!
Kyle- my wife made spaghetti sauce with your hot sausage you left- we had it last night...the most awesome spaghetti I've ever had.
Hats off to whoever made it...its tremendous
Family recipe, thanks very much.
When you get a chance, pm me with an address so I can send you and Mike somethin. I understand you may be moving and wanted to make sure it got to you.
I'll bring the lap top! I can't wait to get down there!
Cool beans I have a jaguar bowhunt with recurve on disc also I will bring
Sweet sap whiskey, Ray's cooking, movie nights... dang... It might be "one of those weekends" if we're not careful!
Luckily I know these are some hard hunting dudes looking to close the deal on the pigs too! You fellas look at the extended forecast? It looks perfect to me!
http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/USSC0107
How wet or dry is it these days Ray?
Thom
Yup I've been watching the forecast for the past week it's lookin' good.
Anybody care to try their hand at a riddle?
What has two thumbs and is excited to try hog hunting?

Dan
Hey, I shot that range last weekend! Stuck that pig a few times really good too!
Move those shots 3-4" forward!!!!
Bad habbit Ray. I'll do my best to correct it.
Thom- Were you at the Anoited trad only shoot there a few weeks back?
Dan
I guess that was two weeks ago, time flies. I showed up around 1pm and stuck around til close. Real nice bunch of folks up there! It was sounding like I showed up right after most people had left.
Thom
I've also got a short howard hill movie with some trick shots I'll try to remember to throw in with my stuff.
Awesome, thanks for bringing a laptop and I do hope you remember the Howard Hill movie, those NEVER get old!!!
Thom
Thom, I must have just missed you that day. I left before follow the leader. My wife and I stopped by last night to shoot a couple rounds and I couldn't help but try to give the hogs some extra love. Looking at the cut aways from the shot placement thread really shows I'm going to have to change my mindset about shooting behind the leg.
The closer we get the better the weather looks. Todays 10 day forecast shows no scattered thunderstorms!
Dan
Yep, I got there just before follow the leader that day. FYI there is good info printed out in camp about anatomy and a nice sized pig target to practice on. Ray is a wealth of knowledge and will help you out if you want any extra pointers. I better start packing for the range, got two strings to stretch out before next weekend!
Thom
After the hunt please post the stories, the pictures and then how about putting on Recipes/Grilling/ Barbecuing/Smokers about some deep fried loins.
Good morning for me today. License printed, arrows no sno'd, silencers on my new string, packing real gear now.
Ray, you've offered a few times to do a tutoring session on broadhead sharpening in camp. I'm thinking I want to take you up on this trip if you don't mind.
I've come to the realization that a broadhead can't be sharp enough. I've got files, Arkansas stones, a Lansky kit,a diamond hone, maybe more I'm forgetting. No KME in my kit. What should I bring other than a bunch of dull broadheads?
Thom
That'll be it
I use a 12 inch Nicholson and a 3x9 piece of belting leather glued smooth side up to a board
I could use a tutorial also. I can get them sharp enough to pop a hair or two hair but Ray gets 'em sharp enough to do an appendectomy.
Cool! I glued up this block and fished out my fine mill/bastard file. It's a Nicholson from Wiggin's Hardware nonetheless :)

I don't know if it's going to make it to Flint, but it's snowing pretty hard here on the lake shore today! Weather like THIS is what makes a Michigan guy want to go south and hunt pigs in the spring!!!
Gear is packed, and I'm counting down the hours!
Thom
Let the dog out this morning and when he came in, he was covered in snow. Came out of nowhere. Just a dusting, now it's all gone.
Good Lord!
Up at 0600 this AM and stepped outside with the dog, it's snowing??!! Can't complain I guess, this IS Michigan. Thom When are you leaving for HH?
Yeah guys, and was that two years ago we got blasted on Easter proper? Crazy.
I'm picking up Dan around 9pm in GR tomorrow night and heading out from there. That will give us several hours to play with so we can stop for a sit down meal or more coffee. When are you guys heading out?
Thom
Tomorrow afternoon around 4 or 5, we're gonna take our time getting there.. See you guys Thursday! Oh hey... what time do we meet Ray at Wiggins?
Nice, enjoy the drive!
I think Wiggins closes at 6pm, that was right about when Ray got there. First thing we did was went for BBQ, so don't fill up!
Another great weekend that came and went way to quickly. Got on some hogs saturday morning but was betrayed by the wind. That afternoon had a small one cross broadside at 15 yrds. but no shot by the time I got my bow up.
Again, Ray was a great host, chef and guide and we finally got to meet Squirrel Bait, not to mention having Woody Blackwell in camp to demonstrate knapping. Thanks again Ray, lokking forward to getting back down there real soon.
What a great weekend temps in the 40's to 70's
Hey Tom give me your addy for that string silencer material
That might have been my best weekend since my last trip to Hog Heaven... Nope, I'm sure of it!
The wildlife was everywhere; pigs, deer, turkeys, gators, snakes, etc. Man, the place was alive! It was good to finally meet Andrew, Mike, Woody, and Harry. Fine bunch of guys there, regardless of the trouble I kicked up with my grits comment a few pages ago.
My only bad news is that my Countour Roam camera is quite wide angle and the videos I shot of those piglets and the deer is kind of hard to make out. I do have several videos and I'll PM those to you guys later.
Ray, I'll PM you my address in a minute.
Rick, just let me know when we're going back because I'm in!
Thom
All around an exciting weekend. I'll try to get those pics burned to a disc and mailed out this week. If you guys can pm your addresses.
I had an outstanding time! Ray was an excellent host and it was great to meet all you others as well. There was certainly no shortage of game and an abundance of other wildlife. Hunting pigs is so different from whitetails and was an exciting change of pace from my normal tree sitting routine. I'm confident god created these animals as a gift to bowhunters. I'm missing it allready.
Woodys presence in camp was great. What that man does with rock is an absolute art. It has lit a fire in me to learn to knapp functionable arrowheads.
Dan
Once again, a great hunt. Great to meet Mike, Woody and Dan for the first time and reconnect with Tom and Ray.
My son was able to fly in from Phoenix and hunt hawgs for his first time and had a blast. I believe this was the first time that Rick and Sean, myself and my son all hunted together, and it will always remain as one of my best hunts ever. We ate, laughed, hunted and meet new friends, it just doesn't get much better!
Ray,
Why didn't you order those temps when I was down there??? 70 was the low, not the high!!!
Thom,
Grits are good food-no matter how you eat them!!
Wow Doug, really cool that you got your son out there. Lifelong memories huh? Any pics of you Rick and the "youngsters" together?
Here ya go, L-R Jordan, Doug Rick and Sean

Completely awesome pic! I know for sure you all had a hoot.
Completely awesome pic! I know for sure you all had a hoot.
We sure did and we can't wait to get back down there. By the way Doug, Sean and I were all hunting with our Two Tracks Ambush bows. They sure were handy in the thick stuff.
Those were HAMBUSH bows!
Takes one ham to know another there Raymundo... :wavey:
Hey Beachie!!!
That was actually the name that Rick had written on his!
I thought that was cool!
Ah-yup, dem hambushes is sweet bows eh?
Hambushes, huntin and sweep sap whiskey!!
Ol' Albert Soady woulda loved Hog Heaven!
