Title: HEADING TO RUSIA
Post by: Michael Pfander on April 02, 2012, 08:14:00 AM
I am heading to Russia this week.  I'll be on the eastern side of the Ural mountains.  The town's name is Tyumen.  Anyone been in the area?  Any Tradganger's there?  I hope to check out the hunting while I am there.

You have to get some photos of the mountains and such for us unfortunate ones who are stuck state side. Good luck and be careful.

Michael,
That is really neat, good hunting and safe travels. While we were talking at Matador you mentioned not being able to find predator camo. A sponsor here,  http://stjoeriverbows.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1
has it in stock.
 Regards,

I spent a week last May about 150 miles SW of Tyumen in the city of Chelyabinsk.  Are you flying in through there or Yekaterinburg?

Growing up in the height of the Cold War, the highlight of my trip was having dinner with an older ex-military guy that had worked on the warheads pointed at my hometown.  Incredible.

I asked about outdoor activities (hunting/fishing), but wasn't able to find anyone that had an interest.  At my questioning, my interpreter said, "I saw a squirrel once".   I laughed, but he was serious.  I hope you have better luck than I did.

It was a great trip that I would repeat in a heartbeat.

As far as I can tell from the tickets I am flying in direct from Moscow.  Since this is all low ground what I am hoping for is some interest in large Russian hogs.  Although bear and sheep and goats all live in the Urals which are not to far away.

Michael,

I have been to Russia numerous times for work but I was never able to hunt there.  I had inquired about doing it several times but I was never able to learn much about what the licensing requirements are for Americans.  From what I was told, tar, stag and bear are the commonly persued gameby the locals.

Be careful with those Radioactive nuclear fallout hogs.
