Howdy Gang,
I was just wondering when Mule Deer drop their sheds? Most particularly in Colorado. I was thinking about doing some shed hunting this weekend and I saw a buck that still had his rack with him. Kind of puzzled me. Back home in Michigan all the whitetails are usually bald by now. Do mulies and whitetails follow the same timeline or do they hold theirs a bit longer?
Aaron, First of all, thank you for your service!
West of Denver, I havent seen anything still attached for about six weeks. This was not a good year for racks/shed hunting, compared to recent past.
Here in the Springs it seemed they held on really late this year, but it's been about a month and a half since I've seen any bucks. I'm a MI transplant too and it's kinda strange seeing antlers in March or early April...
We had a nice little buck living in the 3d range in Golden till this past year and I seen him drop in late February last year,so I guess you could say "it just depends".
Saw 3 yesterday with headgear still, odd year
I don't live in Colorado but here in So. Utah I have seen them drop as early as late november(only once) to as late as mid april. In my opinion I think it maybe a testosterone level issue or if they were a early/late fawn when they were born. It's just like some bucks scape off the velvet much earlier than others but thats just my opinion.
Yeah, this one I saw was a nice lil 4x4. Seen him a couple times over the last couple of months, and just when I was thinking about looking for his "lost" headgear.... I found them...still on his head as of this last friday. Guess I'll just wait a bit longer.
last week a buck came buy our house with antlers. This sunday I went scouting and saw 100 deer and O antlers ????
Mulies in CO drop their racks when the mulies from WY have given them to much to drink. LOL.
My friend in WY sees bucks with headgear routinely into late March early April. We never see headgear still on that long in NY.
