Title: Who uses only 2 fingers
Post by: Bldtrailer on March 30, 2012, 08:11:00 PM
I've always shot 3 split finger with a glove(never could get use to a tab or 3 under) but I some times I get a bad release & not coming to full draw/ancher. I played around with just a 2 finger split release and was pleasently surpised with a more postive anchor and seemed smother release. 54lb@271/2
Does anyone else find 2 better than 3 and what might be the advatage/disadvantage of 2 split?

A while back I noticed my ring finger was just along for the ride and not really pulling so I tried 2 fingers, Didnt see any difference, but after donig it three finder for 40 plus years it just feels natural to use 3.

I do but not buy preferace  :banghead:

I lost finger up to my first knuckle on center finger. It puts a lot of pressure on the other two.

Two finger split deep hook with a tab, often. I fidget less trying to balance finger pressures using two instead of a three finger release. I think it helps reduce torque I have a habit of introducing into my draw hand.

I shot 2 fingers/split for a while, then 2 under. They both worked great, but eventually my fingers were getting very sore after a full day shooting.

I have settled in to shooting 3 under now.

I shot 2 finger split for years due to an injury. Now I do 3 under but my ring finger kind'a just goes along for the ride...lol!

I shoot middle and ring finger under, index laid lightly on top of shaft. My thumb is firmly on the last knuckle of my little finger. Put as much weight on the middle finger as possible. Very clean and consistent release.

I shoot two finger split. I cut my tabs to fit, and I'll never go back to three fingers ever. I have a much cleaner release than I ever did before. Really helped finding my anchor.

I've shot two fingers split (the Flemish draw) almost all of my life.

At what poundage do you seem to need that 3rd finger to comfortably draw? Or does it not figure in at all?

I have been shooting 2 fingers under for a while now, I can't see any reason to put the third one back on the string.

Sam, I think it depends on the individual. When I was shooting a 65# lb recurve I started droping my third finger out after several months of building up to that much weight but I didn't shoot with two for very long. afraid I was going to damage my finger tendons. 50# is my sweet spot

I shot 2 under for a long time. Recently I got a new Kanati and it is about 10# hevier than what I was using. I got a glove with nylon covering the leather on the fingers and got a much smoother release. I found my fingers getting tired very quickly with the 2 under release so I started shooting 3 under. With the new glove my release is as good now with 3 as it used to be with 2.

I shoot three split but at the finish of the draw I drop pressure off my top (index) finger and find the release much smoother with       just the bottom two holding the string.

I shoot two under. Shoot what works best for you, forget the rest!

I am trying a modification of two under by cutting the leather away from my ring finger area on my three under tab.  Seems to be working by forcing more pressure to the idex and middle finger, yet still allowing some strength from the ring finger.

This is where I'm at as well, though I'm still tweaking.

My small fingers aren't strong enough to shoot with 2 fingers.

I'm a glove user and have always shot 3 under. However, the ring finger is just there...does nothing. There is no wear on the glove with the ring finger. Because of that I've tried 2 under but didn't feel right. So I'm a 3 under 2 under guy 8)

I do this as well...anything else feels strange to me. It also reduces finger pinch from short bows if you have a long draw.

That's the man Jim. Same guy I learned from and really like the release I get. He goes by the name "Dan".  Super guy, great man, superb bowyer (along with Jared (his son)) and excellent shooting instructor.   :archer2:

Yep Dan was the one who first showed me the basics of shooting. I wish I could make it up there more regularly for shooting lessons. He makes a pretty mean bow as well!
