Title: More Dwyer eye candy
Post by: NBK on March 30, 2012, 01:06:00 PM
I'd bought this bow a few summers ago from a fellow tradganger (1screagle/Ken) but never posted pics.  The story behind the bow is this, (as told to me by Sue Dwyer);  Their son Corey wanted to pull out all the stops and make himself a bow with the agreement that he'd sell it within a year.  I'm not exactly sure what all woods are in it because frankly, there are a bunch.  The veneers are some really cool zebrawood and the riser has zebrawood, osage, cocobolo, ebony and whatever else.  The limbs are bamboo.  The tips themselves have 13 laminations.  It's the only "Special Edition" Dwyer that I know of and when it was done, Corey killed an 8pt. buck with it and named it the "Legolas" bow.  (Years from now it will have been a 7x7 elk and the bow packed it out itself   ;)  )  Well it's fallen into my hands and I just had Dave refinish part of it and put on a new beavertail grip.  Here's some eye candy for you.  Enjoy.

What a beauty and I'm sure it's a shooter too.

What are the specs?
Unbraced does it resemble a Defiant or Dauntless?
Looks longer than the Endeavor.

I can help, It is a Defiant 60" 55#@28" It is an awesome bow, shoots as good as it looks. Quiet and confidence inspiring. I will have Dave make me up one with the same specs one day if I can't get this one back from Mike. Mike has great taste in bows. The bow has Osage, Cocobolo, Zebrawood, Macasser Ebony, Bacote, 3-4 lams of bamboo with an extra power strip in the riser with extra overlays.

You might be shocked to see how reasonably priced Dwyer's bows are. Also some of the best folks you'll ever run in to,I look foreward to every memorial weekend. You will always be welcomed in with a warm handshake, and a big smile.
My go to bow for some time now has been a 66# defiant that Dave named M'bogo, and it has lived up to it's name every hunting season.

187BOWHUNTER
As mentioned Dave's bows are very reasonably priced for the quality you receive.  This bow, unfortunately no one can afford other than 1Screagle because I promised him that if I ever decided to sell he'd get first chance and he's already itching!  Ken, I had Dave touch it up and upgrade the grip because this is too nice a bow to let diminish, and I'm looking to kill a few critters with it to add to the mojo.  My elk hunt for this coming fall fell through, so I'm all chips in on a big whitetail come November.  First though it's going turkey hunting in late April with my daughter and I.  It's 60" length works well in a tent blind.  Ordering a new SBD string and some Surewood shafts and we're good to go!
Lost Arra:  It's a Defiant pulling 55@28 and knowing that you have an Endeavor I can give you a direct comparison;  the endeavor is a smidge smoother at the end of the draw (I draw just shy of 29") and is a bit quicker.  I will say though that this bow for me points a little better, and there is less preload on the draw.  Also having an Original what I like best about the Dwyers is that the grips and center cut are so similar that with matched arrows you can switch models with ease.
Thanks for the responses, and Ken, if you ever need to borrow it for a really special hunt, let me know, we'll work something out.

Thanks Mike,

Just knowing you you are willing makes urning easier. I'm glad you love it as much as I do. I would truely love to spend some time with you, shoot, hunt, hang out? If you plan on doing any WTA shoots let me know. I have some ideas about some events I'd like to initiate here in Wi. and Iowa. Hope you can put more mojo to Legolas with your daughter. Take care!

Dwyers are one of the best crafted longbows in the business, pretty much flawless. Nice shooters to boot.

Worth your time to do so.  The only longbow that I have ever kept is a Dwyer Defiant.

One of the biggest reasons I want to have my Defiant back is to honor Dave, I felt bad when I sold it, Like I was letting him down. He doesn't look at it that way, I do. Just going thru my learning curve and didn't have the resources to keep them all. I'll have another or hopefully the one I had one day. I've gotten to know Dave a little, shot a round of 3-d with him, fun guy, great to hang with. I LOVE his work, great bowyer and great guy!
