I made a trade earlier today for a Toelke Kestral, 52", 50# @ 28" (I draw just over 29", so 53# - 54# at my draw...). It is a one of a kind Kestral, it actually has the Whip's grip on it and a Phenolic riser with quiver inserts installed. When the previous owner got the bow he sent it to Big Jim for skins and a beavertail grip... I really wish it was 15# heavier, but I really wanted to try it... been looking for shorter bows for convenience in hunting... Thunderchilds, Hoots etc... Had never heard of the Kestral until this morning, but all the good I've heard about Dan's bows I had to give it a try... Does anyone else shoot one of these, if so, give me a bit of a low down on what I can expect when it gets here...
Thanks!
Oh yeah, if anyone has a Kanati side mount Angle Pro in black I've got several Selways to trade for in the classifieds or cash if the price is right...

If it shoots as good as it looks your good to go! Really cool lookin bow. Please post how good it shoots at your draw length. Its a Toelke so you know its great quality. I had a Whip, damn nice bow. Keep us posted.
Kole
That is a beautiful bow! Can't wait to hear how she shoots.
That is one fine looking weapon! Good luck with it Jeff :archer2:
Nice
I'd be interested to see a pic of the bow with you at full draw shooting a 52" bow!
Like you I've been entertaining the idea of a short bow. That's the first of that kind I've seen as well. Looks like a 10" brace height in the last pic. Those skins over black are a great camo. Good luck on you set back quiver which is a fine choice.
Beautiful bow. Let us know how it shoots when you get it.
Fine looking bow, love the grip.
I've never heard of the Kestral but I do have one of Dan's Chinook's and one Whip Longbow. Great bows to shoot and you can't deal with a better man. He really knows his bows (arrows too).
Best of luck with it.
That looks like a perfect turkey blind bow!
Nice looking Bow .!!
Dang She's PURDY! I have a Kodiak Magnum 52" at 58 and I have a beautiful Whip 53#r and it's a pleasure to shoot both. I have been to Mr. Toelke's twice and shot many of his bows and they were all Sa-WEET to shoot. You will not be disappointed. Did I say she was Purdy?
That is one sweet looking bow! I can't say enough about Dan and Jared's workmanship and customer service. Top shelf...
Wow! That is a very cool looking recurve. That slender riser gives it the old vintage recurve look.
Congrats!
I was at Dan's in 2010 and shot a couple of them a fair bit. I have a 29" draw and there was not a hint of stacking. It's a Toelke, it's going to be well-mannered and it's very fast as well especially with heavy arrows. Read Pete Ward's review on one, it has chronograph results with a wide range of arrow weights.
Nice!
Beautiful!!! If it proves to be too low of a poundage for ya I would be happy to take it off yer hands. :goldtooth:
That's a great looking bow. I have a 29-inch draw and stacking/pinching would be my biggest concerns, but so far it seems like those are non-issues.
I read the aforementioned Pete Ward review; has lots of good information in it.
Does anyone have a link to Pete's review of the Kestral?
Thanks for the kind words fellas, I'm excited to get it and run it through its paces...
Here you go Jeff, very nice bow

Oh my!
He gives a very big thumbs up and I've only read good things here as well.
That 52"er may be my next bow after my new Zipper arrives. I like short bows. Sounds like this one disclaims most, if not all the short bow problems.
They have a few nice dark ones in stock, but I need a lefty, else I'd be in trouble...
I like very nice. I bet you get along with that one very well Jeff.
Thanks for the link John, impressive review! I've got some Gold Tip 35/55's that weigh in just over 600 grains with 250 grain tips... they will be the first of my arrows to cross the shelf. Might have to play with point weight but I think they will work well... we'll see...
That's a really sharp looking bow. Good luck with it.
Jeff, that is a classy looking recurve. Enjoy.
Well the bow arrived today, and I had a little bit of time before the sun went down to shoot it. So far I'm more then impressed, very smooth out to my draw length, very good manners, and extremely quick. It loves my 35/55's... they have 80 grains of Gold Tip weights behind the inserts and it really shoots pretty much any tip I put on it from 125 through 250 grains... I'm going to stick with the 175's as it puts it right at 10 GPP at my draw, and it's nock and feathers to the target. Still have a bit of tweeking to do, brace height, nock point etc... but so far I'm impressed!
Really need a side mount Kanati in black to set this bow off! Might have to give John a shout and get it on its way here...
I put my Kanati Angle Pro strap-on on the bow, close to perfect... Still looking for a side mount for it though as this quiver is just waiting on my Black and White Ebony Thunderchild to be made...

I love it and hate it when I find bows like this... Costs me money!
Dan is really stepping up his recurve game! His first three piece curve got mixed reviews, but your thoughts on this and the lynx all seem to be very positive. I just picked up a Lynx out of the classifieds. Rocked my trad. bow world, i freaken' love the Lynx, i hope this treats you as well.
Ya Dan is the Man..Glad yall Like the lynx and The Kestral,,Both were made to my specs,Got a Special 3 pcs comming soon....Will get pics up...
