Hello gang,
I am trying to get the right carbon arrow. I will have to add weight to achieve this. I don't want to add heavy inserts, because I want to keep my FOC low.
Weight tubes don't work properly.
So now I am thinking of (para)cord.
It should weigh something about 60 to 90 grains at 30 inch. The diameter should fill a Goldtip Traditional, I think that's about 6mm(.246").
Any suggestions?
Dutch, I think you are about right, I have para-cord in some GT5575s and I think the the cord was about 29 inches or so and I think they were about 70grns. I hope this helps. Weidsman heil :wavey: :campfire:
Did you use the 550 paracord?
Did it work all-right?
Yes and yes  :campfire:
I'm not sure paracord would work well....too much moving back and forth uless you pack the heck out of it.
I've had success with weed eater line, aquarium tubing, and weed eater line inside aquarium tubing....just cut either a half inch longer and the scrunching keeps them from rattling.
Yes, there is that, but I think that he just shoots 3D, so maybe he can get by. I have also used weed eater line and wrapped med tape at each end and the middle to eliminate noise. :campfire:
Right folks, I appreciate your inputs, keep um coming!
BTW: I hate a rattling arrow.....
Just pour some coffee in it will pack to the front,to remove use straight coathanger. If used coffee let it dry first.
The coffee is a nice idea, but I don't want to add weight to the front only. BTW: a safe ideay you will laways have your spare coffee with you in the bush....
I use cloth-like clothesline, from ACE Hardware. I get 7/32 - just small enough to fit in the Goldtips. At 27 inches I add right around 100 grains to the shaft. As I shoot the shafts, the line gets a little bunched toward the front. (Not much, but a little.) This sends a little bit of the weight forward.
I found that the extra weight quiets my bows and helped a little on penentration this year.
I used the nylon, yellow or gold colored, braided rope, I think in 1/4 inch.....and it added 100 grains, to the few carbons (gold tip)in my cache. Got it at ACE as well. Another option.
I agree with Terry and what he said about cutting the aquarium tubing a little long. It also keeps from blowing nocks off.
I have used the clothesline mentioned above in my carbons as well. I stuffed 30" of line into a 26.75" shaft. After impacting the target it does pack down somewhat towards the insert end. Since you mentioned you do not want a higher FOC perhaps the nylon braided rope mentioned by Mark Baker would work better in your case due to its greater rigidity.
