I've already introduced myself over in the Arkansas section and you guys seem really nice :)
I'm a 25 year old Arkansas transplant from NE Indiana and grew up trapping and fishing. My father is not a hunter but I can remember "reading" Guns and Ammo since I was a tiny munchkin and being the only girl in school who knew how to shoot. I had a homemade pvc bow and did archery in high school. Trad appeals to me because of the silence, portability and we just enjoy doing things the old way.
I'm looking to buy a bow in the next few months and it seems Maddog is the way to go, now I just have to save my pennies! My husband is not (yet) a hunter but maybe I can drag him outdoors once in awhile - He's too busy being a plane maker's apprentice.
Elizabeth

Welcome. :wavey:
Maddog Mike is good people & tremendous bows! Guarantee folks here will be willing to help anytime! Enough in the archives to fill an entire set of encyclopedias! Welcome!
Thank you for such a warm welcome! I do like the pink bow but I'm kind of a traditional girl - I told my husband about the cocobolo and his ears perked up. He has some on his bench right now and the shavings smell cinnamon. I'm a big crafter but weaving is my love. It will be nice to have more outdoor hobbies than just chickens, bees and gardening.
Welcome to the "Gang", Maddog is a great bow to get started... Lots of great information on this site...
:wavey: :wavey:
Welcome aboard :archer2:
Elizebeth,
Welcom aboard! Lived 15 years in Arkansas while in the USAF stationed at Little Rock AFB. Loved the state, but alas needing work compell me to head back home to Mississippi
Welcome gladt to have you onboard with us !!!! :clapper:
Welcome to the campfire, ma'am! :wavey: :campfire:
Chickens, bees, gardening, weaving, archery, and you can SPELL! Pleased to see a true Renaissance woman on board! I hope to see many posts about your adventures in the coming years.
Pink gives me a bit of a gag reflex, so the cocobolo sounds interesting. I know, a lot of gals like pink, but it, and Barbie, give me a case of the creeps. :wavey:
Nice to see You here on TradGang welcome. :wavey:
Do You know Your draw length and what poundage Your going to be shooting?
bretto
Welcome aboard
Good to have you here. Looking forward to some posts with a new perspective.
Here's a BIG WELCOME from us fellows in the thumb of michigan !!!!!! :archer:
Killdeer, I was more into using my brother's GI Joes to rescue the barbies who were being held hostage than playing with their clothes. I guess that's what happens when you just have a brother and grow up on a dead-end dirt road with no neighborhood kids!
Bretto, I know from the other night at the archery shop that I have a 26" draw but all he had were 50# bows. Is there any way of testing this out without a bow?
Were you pulling the 50# back to 26"? if so you where probably drawing around 43 - 45#. If you where getting it back, but a "little short" you can estimate that for each inch less than 28" you where loosing about 2.5#. Example: if you can draw a 50# @ 28" bow 24", you were drawing around 40#. Most adult sized bows in an archery shop, are marked at a 28" draw length. If you order something custom made you can order it at the poundage you want at your partiuclar legnth that you draw.
:wavey:
welcome :clapper: :clapper:
Glad to have you :wavey:
I've shot Mindy's bow and that thing is sweet. I don't think you can do better than Maddog!
Welcome! Maddog bows are great bows.
Always glad to see women in the sport! Welcome! I got my wife a Great Plains recurve for a gift before we got married and luckily since she is always up to try new things it worked out! Did the same for fly fishing. Now i just have to wait til my ten month old daughter can get big enough to join in on the fun! Good luck!
Welcome, glad you are here.
Welcome from big Wyoming. Glad your here.
welcome and good luck with the bow...the bowhunting...and converting your husband...if not then he will just have to sit and listen to your stories of adventure and danger over the years and how you stalked up close on the big one on the wall. :)
Maddog, he had a special type of bow that only measured draw length, not poundage. He was too scared to let me try to pull back the 50# for fear of "the little lady hurting herself." I'll try to go to Dick Palmer's shop this week.
Glad to see so many wives are interested in this and thanks again for the warm welcome.
Welcome from TN
Welcome to the best archery site out there! There's a lot of support here to help you with any questions. :wavey:

Welcome from Oregon!
Jerry
Mgirl, I bought my first longbow from Dick Palmer in 1983. He has been in traditional archery for a long time and should be able to answer any questions you might have.
Welcome aboard.
Welcome to ya!
Up until last year, 99% of the time I hunted alone (and I was born and raised a city kid, so there is hope for your husband). Now, it's always Jennifer (a.k.a. - Silver_Wolf) and I.
Yes, I let her have my best tree-stand location, but when the deer came by her way... she was asleep in her Summit climber.
Hunting alone is nice, but hunting with someone you want to be with.........well, it doesn't get any better!!! I wish you the best in getting your hubby out and into the woods.
Welcome to our family of Trad bowhunters. I think that you will find this to be helpful group if you have questions.
I'd bet you could handle a 50#@28" bow considering your 26" draw. Or at least a 45 @ 28 bow. Any bow weighed and marked at 28" would be easier to sell as you move along in your bow life. Just as a comparison, my 10 yr old grandson can pull my 45 pound bows back to his draw, which is about 21 " right now. A 45 may be about perfect for you.
Elizabeth, Welcome from Montana. You will enjoy the group of people here, a lot of good information available.
