Title: Non-Bitzenburger Fletchers?
Post by: eminart on March 21, 2012, 11:15:00 AM
I know the Bitzenburgers are considered the gold standard of fletching, and I've used them a lot. But, getting back into archery all at once can carry a heavy price tag.

So, I was wondering if any of the less costly alternatives are worth buying. Bohning makes one that looks like it might be ok, but I don't know.

I used a Jo-Jan for a long time, bought a Bitz and ended up returning it because I like my jo-jan more.

I will reccomend BPE Pro fletcher. Affordable, adjustable and dependable, I've had one for 25 years.

I have the Jo-Jan multi-fletcher and also own a Bitz.  The bitz is a good fletcher but I much prefer my multi-fletcher.  When you finish up an arrow, you can't tell which jig was used for fletching.  A buddy uses a bohninng and it really does a nice job too.

I like the Bohning jig for just fletching one arrow at a time. That said I love my Jo Jan multifletcher. They run around $100 and you can fletch up to 6 arrows at a time.

I have the Bohning and I have no complaints. I think I gave $18 bucks for it. I also had a Grayling jig that was 10 or 15 bucks. It worked great also...that is until I lost the clamp.

I have a Jo-Jan and have had no problems with it.  If you usable four flechings just check to be sure the one you buy will do the set up you want-they can't be adjusted to change from 90x90 to 105x75 without buying a new nock holder.

Whats wrong with buying used help to contain costs for what your looking for? I have 2 Jojans multis bought used and 2 bitz bought used and they work great no issues all depends what I'm doing to the usage they get in both straight and LW.
Jojans were each 60.00 and the Bitz's were 25.00 and 45.00 a straight and a LW. Can't get better deals unless they were free.

BPE PRO  here also. Was given a Bitz one year for Chrismas years ago and I let my ex father in-law use it and never saw it again. Bought a BPE Pro and love it. They are so versitile. You can do anything you want with them. I now have both left and right clamps for it. I have done many arrows with it and plan to do many more.

Nothing is wrong with it. If you can find me a bitzenburger for $25 I'll buy it right now.

But, I saw a few at the auction site and they were all already over $40 with lots of time left for bidding.

Well, after all this research and all your great suggestions, I talked to my dad tonight and he's going to be mad if I buy one. He wants me to just get his bitzenburger and use it. He says he probably won't even need it this coming year. I hate borrowing stuff, but he's pretty adamant about it, so I probably will.

I have a BPE and a Bear Paw.  Hands down the Bear paw is better.  Easier adjustment for one thing.  You push a button and it goes from 3 to 4 fletch!

I made arrows commercially for 15 years  at an archery shop. We had a few Bitzs but rarely used them I had a set up of 9 Jo Jan multi-fletchers  and always got good consistant  arrows from them.   used  straight and helical clamps. When set up with the proper care they work great. I have both at home and use the Jo-Jan more than the Bitz .     BOTH will work great  but Id go with the JO Jan if I was buying new .

Jo Jan for me. Works great- I don't need to impress anyone with a cast metal fletching jig.

Jo-Jan RW Multi-fletcher for years now. One of my best investments.
