Thanks, but I dont have the bones and our spring season doesnt allow us to shoot hens. From what I have read, pen raised birds dont have the same bone density, so buying a bird at the grocery store wont cut it.

You could also try putting an add in the free classifieds here on TG.

If you want to make a call, I will sent you the bones from both wings of a jake turkey.  The only catch is, you have to make two calls, one to keep and the other you will need to offer up to auction for the St. Jude kids, on your honor, no excuses.  PM me your address if interested.

I have made calls for friends and family.   Wild or store bought turkeys all work the same.
Clean off the meat form wing bones, soak in hydrogen peroxide.  Clean off more meat to the bone.  Cut the ends off. Clean out the bone marrow with a small wire or chain saw file.  Let bones dry for a few days, cut to the length you need and glue together with epoxy.  Sand it smooth with sandpaper. Make it talk....

During our Easter family gathering, I eat turkey wings, save the bones and take them home to make calls.  The wife and family laugh at me but its fun to make the call and give to the grandkids.

Own quite a fancy collection of wingbone and trumpet calls. Like everythingelse it is so easy to go over board.

Have called in birds using both a pen and a straw.

Still like my customs.

Go to the grocery store buy a hen turkey, pull the wing bone and eat the rest! As mentioned above the how-to section has a tutorial or you tube it. Simply to build.

Thanks for all the info/advice guys. However after thinking about it, I am going to take Lefty up on his offer for the bones and make a call for the St Judes auction.

...Like it was stated above wild bones and bones from a store bought bird are two totally different densities , I 've made both - completely different - must be something in their diet . I've also made them from Toms, jakes and hens -they all work just different pitches . Wild bones are harder and come out with a shine - farm raised birds are brittle like and have a chalky bone for a finish and to me have a different sound and harder to make good sounds . Just what I have found from my experiences with both .
