Its hard to catch the beauty of a fly. But they shoot great, smooth draw, and are a work of art.

Wow!  That those are great looking bows.  I love the artistry that our custom bowyers are putting out.  What are the limb lams on the bow from Bowhuntr?

The lams on the limbs of the bow I traded to Mac are Waterfall Bubinga. The riser is Cocabolo and Yellowheart. Jim Johnson sure makes great shooting, beautiful bows!
Thanks for the kind words Steve, hope all is well in the North country. I sure regret not figuring out a way to try and get together with you when I was up in Saskatchewan bear hunting!

My sentiment hasn't changed since I first got it.  The firefly in my avatar is the best shooting bow that I've personally shot and remains the standard that I compare others to.  I shoot other bows also, but the firefly will remain with me.

As it so happens, I just received a new Firefly from Mr. Jones just yesterday!  I put in my order about 5 weeks ago, and lo and behold, it is already here!  Riser is bocote and bubinga, with wenge and maple accent stripes. I ordered two sets of limbs, one 42# at 31", and the second 52# at 31".  The first set has waterfall bubinga veneers, the second has bocote.  Both have actionboo cores.  When I placed an order with Jim, I asked that he try and make the grip similar to that on my Dwyer Dauntless.  All he asked for was a tracing of the riser.  It feels like he had a mold of my hand!  Let me get this photobucket thing figured out, and I'll post some pics.

That is nice...congrats on getting such a nice one...

Had a real nice long conversation with the builder of the Firefly today..Jim Jones...Real nice guy...very easy to understand and talk to...I like that...Adding a new set of limbs to this rig is going to be a lot easier and quicker than I anticipated..should I choose to and most likely will since his wood selection is vast.....same for refinishing it if needed...I am liking it even more now...and haven't held it in my hands yet... My secondary bow may be going the rest up on the wall very soon at this rate...and remain as it is for the time being..We shall see...probably tomorrow (fingers crossed) I am hoping..Hmmmm...heavy or light poundage...heavy or light poundage...dark woods or lighter shades...darker woods or lighter shades...stuff dreams are for...lol...lol...lol.

Waiting patently for the mail man to come...darn...this waiting game is totally nerve racking...

Meanwhile...I am seriously considering a nice set of target weight limbs for this rig...figuring 45 lbs at 29" should be able to really zing them out there if a suitable weight light enough arrow is used...Any of you guys shooting this weight with target type arrows...or are you all using hunting weight arrows with your ? I'm thinking about using a 29".500 Flat line..with natural 4" barred feathers and a 50 grain brass insert with a 75 grain target point...should be around 7.5 GGP and come out about 350 grains total weight...Any other ideas..let me know..I'm all ears..

I've settle on the limb woods...and figure when I ship it to Jim to mate the limbs up...I'll go with a nice set of Birds eye maple to match the Yellow heart in the riser...this will give me both a light color set...and a darker colored set...and make a nice contrast to the rest of the riser..

It's here...and it is everything I have been told about them...and much more...Faster than any Long Bow I have ever shot...and it gives quite in bows a brand new meaning to me...

Thank You Thank You Thank You Dan...for trading me...It is perfect...and the Kanati Quiver is puts this over the top my friend...totally over the top...

You can hardly tell this bows has ever been in the woods...it is in perfect condition...and the pictures really don't do the woods on this bow justice..

I also want to Thank Jim Jones the one...who built this bow...for doing such a outstanding job on it..You should be proud sir...I'll be ordering a set of limbs very soon from you...and will be calling next week..

Mac, I am glad you are so happy with the bow but knowing the bow that does not surprise me in the least! A beauty and a performer like that Firefly deserves to be out in the woods hunting and not just hanging on the wall!  It sounds to me like you have lots of plans for her which is awesome. Make sure to posts some pictures of you, the bow and the next critter to "die by fly"!   :)

Wish that it wasn't such a hassle to post on this site. I have a sweet red/gray fire fly with 2 sets of limbs. The red is swirled into the limb glass and follows the grain of the riser....awesome bow!!!

That is nice!!

Jim does a great job, just look at the curved accent. To keep the other accent line straight after putting the curve in is a touchy deal!! LOL

Mac, Jim sent me a set of his light weight lefty limbs to try. I shoot right hand but the leftys will bolt on but not fit right. These limbs had carbon in them but I can't remember if they were cored or backed. Very smooth shooting and very stable. Shot up there with my heavier limbs. If you are thinking light weight talk to Jim about his carbon set up.
