Title: Traditional Archery in Alabama?
Post by: eminart on March 18, 2012, 01:25:00 PM
I live in huntsville, al. I was just curious if there are any clubs or groups in the area that an aspiring traditionalist could join or visit. Seems like all the shops up here are compound for the most part.

rjackson, glad to hear there are a few around. My wife is going to "surprise" me with a longbow for father's day. I may meet up with you guys once I get it set up. I was an avid 3d shooter in my compound days. I'd probably enjoy shooting a few with a stick bow.

Scott,
Give me a call sometime. Live in Meridianville just North on Hwy231, when Huntsville runs out. Work on the Arsenal. I have more Trad stuff than an Archery shop. Ya never know what I'll have because I do alot of trading. My shooting range is 62# or less and shoot Primarily Left but starting shooting Right two years ago. I have 40+ bows to shoot so come on by. Only thing is I work 3-11pm so that cuts down on being social for most "Day" workers.

Also have 46 acres behind house to play, ponds, creeks, turkey, deer, predators, ducks, etc.

Yeah, we'll have to meet up some time. I'm actually working in meridianville now in a hangar at the airport. This is probably my last week out here before going back to huntsville though. But yeah, my work schedule is the opposite of yours. I usually get off work at 3-3:30.

I've heard that Byron Ferguson is in Hartselle. Does he have a shop/range/anything?

Scott, Look out your door to the East. See that sub-division> That is where I live. The 46 acres is behind house in the creek system bordering Airport property. What ya doing for lunch this week? Burn something on the grill........

Byron does live in Hartselle and shoots in his yard but doesn't have a 'public range' or shop.  There are a lot more trad folks in the area than you would think.

Ha! It's a small world. I usually only get 30-45 minutes for lunch so I don't know if I'd have time for that.

No, I looked over there when I first joined, but I was under the impression it was just a place for posting upcoming events. I'll check it out again.
