Title: first trad. 3d shoot
Post by: Mofarmboy on March 17, 2012, 03:03:00 PM
been shootin 3d for about 7 years i've went from hunter class to open and now to trad. i bought a hoyt dorado about a month ago and havent picked up my wheelie bow since. i knew that by shooting 3d my comoetitve side would force me to prsctice more and nit just settle for (good enough to kill) accuracy. my firat time out was somewhat humbling i missed 5 targets but also had some really good shots and best of all didnt lose any arrows:)the club i went to didnt have a trad. stake so i just shot from whereever and probably made it a little hard on myself by shooting from too far out.
my setup was a 2011 hoyt dorado 60in 45lb with 29.5in easton epic 500 with 50gr insert and 125gr tip.
heres a few pics

I just got home from my first time ever at an outdoor 3D course.  I didn't lose any arrows either, but your pictures there are a lot prettier than my shooting was... !

Don't get me wrong guys I had my share of less than stellar shots today but I'd didn't take pictures of those:)
The main thing is I had alot of fun more so than I have in along time shooting in the open class.

3-Ds can be humbling, but they are great learning experiences for hunting situations. Good practice for 3-Ds is shooting tennis balls with judos in an open field. Throw out two or three tennis balls, where they stop is where they get shot at. One shot per person at each ball. If a ball gets hit, the next shot in the group is taken from where the ball stops rolling. When you get to where you are hitting 8 of 10 at varied ranges you are on your game. A definate "Pick a Spot" exercise and alot of fun. You can do this by your self but it is 10 times more fun in a group of two or three.
