Title: A new Mentor
Post by: Shane C on March 16, 2012, 01:12:00 AM
So my new (to me) Mentor by Wes Wallace came I'm the mail today. It's an awesome bow. It's 62" and 54# @28. So more like 60# @ my 30" draw. Here are some pics that I was sent of it. Well try to take some of my own picture later.

Awesome bow - never sell it.  I had one once and sold it in a bow trading fit, like an idiot, and I've regretted it ever since.  I'll def. have another some day.

Thanks guys. It's even better in person. I'm pretty excited about it.
Bayhunter: it shoots great, though since this is my first time shooting trad I don't shoot too great. I was able to get arrows in a group a little smaller than a baseball size at 10 yards. And a group at 5 yards with all 4 arrows touching, though I'm sure this is pretty easy for most people.
Piratkey: I have a different string on there right now with some cat wishers and it's super quiet. I have the string that's in those pictures too though. The grip is the medium one.
Ulysseys: I don't plan in ever selling this bow. It is my first recurve and my wife got it for me as a Valentines day gift. It means a lot to me.
EHK: I'm not sure washy the riser is made from. The guy I bought it from got it from a fellow tradganger and he wasn't sure of the riser material was. He did say he sent it back to Wes to lower the poundage and refinish the limbs so maybe the original owner may know and recognize the bow. Here's a better pic of the riser.

Did you change FF string for dacron string for the bow become quiet?
Title: Re: A new Mentor
Post by: Shane C on March 17, 2012, 07:16:00 PM
It came with dacron strings. I believe the note the seller gave me said that the bow is not FF capable. Not sure if that's true of all Wes's bows or just this one

Thank Shane for the answer.
This is a email copy from Wes about is bow (FF capable or not)
"All of my bows are fast flight compatible. They come standard with a D97 string which is a non stretch string. Wes"
But the bow is much quiet with dacron string ,so if you are happy with the dacron and if you dont run after speed, change nothing.

It looks Bubinga to me,but maybe someone else can have a better view.
Anyway you have a great piece of custum work and an excellent bow,be proud of it!

Shane.,the riser is Bubina, not sure of the stripe running through her.If I remember right Wes told me the limbs were red elm.

I have the exact bow, could be twins. Bubinga riser with red elm limbs, stained to match the bubinga riser, accents are indeed shedua.

My very first traditional bow and after coutless others, it's till my go to bow, always will be!! Have not found a better bow.

I agree w/ Felix and northener! I am certain the accent is shedua... The riser "appears" to be bubinga. That's a beautiful bow my friend! My mentor w/myrtle wood riser and shedua accents (coupled with a Linda Brackenbery B-50 string) is the most forgiving and consistent bow in my livery! Great days ahead for you brother!
