I have a pair of Leica 10 x 50 binoculars. I am looking for recommendations on a bino harness? Thanks.
justin
Crooked Horn - best strap I've ever used. That reminds me - I need another one for my back up binoculars!
I just found a GREAT bino harness. It is simple and ultra light.
Take a look here:
http://captivatemoutdoors.com/STORE.html
There are only 3 products on the page, but Mike carries lots of the best gear. He hunts hard and know what works and likes to work personally with customers.
Here is a pic:

I ditto Whip.
Love my Crooked Horn.
Although, Steve O, that system looks intriguing as well. Nice protection from bumps and the elements.
3RA is listing some by Badlands. They look interesting. I've used Crooked Horn. All of them seem to get in the way when I shoot. I'm trying to work with a military/LE thigh "drop pouch" to keep them off my neck and still be easy to use. Mine are 10X50 EL Swaros.
badlands are nice if you feel like paying 60 bucks, they do keep your binos clean. The Crooked horn can not get much better, they are comfortable all day long
For the harness I use this: http://www.schnees.com/product/2599/schnees-pro-staff
Can be combined with this to keep it water and grit free:
http://www.schnees.com/product/2598/wilderness-pack-specialties
For short hunts, or "backyard" hunts, I use this:
http://www.cabelas.com/optics-harnesses-badlands-binoculars-case.shtml
I put a water bladder in the back, a couple of snacks and a call in the front along with a knife on the side. Works out pretty well.
There's also these by Badlands:

However, if you are going to be carrying a pack around don't use the badlands harnesses. The triangle in the back is a pouch that holds the webbing for a water bladder. This will be extremely annoying with a pack on top of it.
Crooked Horn. Good product. I also carry mine in a Bino Rain Wrap. The combo works well together for both ease of use and protection.
If you have regular binocular straps, then the simple $10 monostrap by Barry Wensel may work for you. TG sponsor of brothersofthebow.com Just clip on to strap and down your back to clip on your belt of loop.
When I hunt with a pack or a cat quiver, I clip my binos to the D-rings on the shoulder straps. It works good, especially on packs where the D-rings ride high, like shoulder level. A couple of bucks on some S-clips at Lowe's or Wally World, and that's it. And the absence of a special harness means one less thing to gear up with.
I never knew about the Wensel strap. That seems like a good idea.
X2 for the monostrap from uncle Barry! Simple and cheap(like me) :campfire:
I've had real good luck with my BadLands harness...DB
Steve O- what is the straps made of. I would be concerned that they would lose their strength/stretch capacity?? Yes. . No ???
My son has a Crooked Horn and I have the harness from Cabelas. The CH in nice but the Cabelas harness is way more heavy duty For the same basic price.
Got a bino harness last year made by S4 Gear, it's comfortable, easy to adjust and protects your optics.
Crooked horn
Crooked Horn gets my vote.
Crooked Horn. Durable and comfortable.

Some kind of industrial stretch cord...I am not worried about losing stretch. For some reason, I never liked the crooked horn. Never. For twenty years I have been trying home made and commercial ways so as to find a better mousetrap. I am happy now.
Here's what I use!

Seen a hunting show with Larry Altizer once and he had a cord on his binos long enough to push around and ride on the strong side of your body and out of the way for stalking game. When on the prowl for elk and such this is how ive done it with my 8x30 swaros. For glassing with the 10x40 Ill use the crooked horn eveytime.
Saw the same show with Altizer (thought his name was Alan?) tried it for a season...lost my binoculars in a swamp.
I have a Cabelas that looks so much like a crooked horn I have always assumed it is made by crooked horn. In fact I have two of them . I like them a lot ! .... 8^)
I like crooked horn as well. I got mine cheap too on a closeout at Walmart late in the year. I think they only cost me $12.
I tried a bunch of them including the Crooked Horn and all gave me problems with comfort or pack straps or quiver straps. The Badlands with the pouch was comfortable, but is bulky. I just got one of the S4gear and so far I like it better than all the rest. As in any other thing we wear, personal fit will probably determine what works for who.
Best of luck and I hope it doesn't take as many dollars for you to find one that fits you as it did for me!
I've got the Cabelas "Pro" harness. It's a little heavier duty than the old Crooked Horn it replaced.
I've used the Crooked Horn for years without a problem. I really never even think about having it on until a discussion like this comes up. No interference with shooting or pack straps.
The only alternative I've considered is the Nimrod system but it's kind of pricey (with the bino cover) to fix something that ain't broke.

NIMROD makes one i put my Swaroviski 10x50 on and they are nice.
Rick Young Ultra Lite Bino harness.
Before I went on a elk hunt last year I bought several different harnesses. The Rick Young is light, compact, can be used around your neck and also on the side. The bino slides up easy to your eyes whether on the side or over your shoulders. It is easy to adjust to you personally. You don't even know you are wearing it. Plus it is inexpensive. I bought one for me and my hunting partner. We used it for a 11 day back country backpack hunt for elk last year and it was great.

A young beautiful blonde to carry your binoculars. Seems like the best solution to me. :clapper:

Gil, you always have the best taste....I wish you would have posted that as soon as you found that it worked. That is the one I mentioned on page one. You should get in touch with Mike, he has all kinds of cool stuff that works like this!
Trying the S4 Gear this year. So far I like it better than the cabelas harness.
Thanks Gil. I like the simplicity of the Rick Young bino harness. I've tried a crooked horn and although I liked it, I gave it away. Now I have another option that is much simpler.
justin
The best thing about the Rick Young harness is when the wind blows it doesn't make your glasses shake like the crooked horn. Spent about 60 days last year with mine and love it. Tried all the rest. This is the best.
Do the thin straps of the Rick Young cut into you with heavy glass? My 10X50s are about 36 oz.
Tried most of them mentioned and haven't found one that I like. Best thing I have found is Barry's idea, an adjustable cord/strap that attaches to your belt in the center of your the back. I think they (Brothers of the Bow) are now selling a production model that is more refined then my home made one. Check it out on their site, it is ago simple you will feel stupid for not thinking of it yourself.
Justin if you do get a pair and you don't like them sell them to me. I am going to get a second pair.
Robert I have a pair of Zeiss 10x40 and Bushnell 10X40 H2O. I don't know how much they weigh, but I don't even realize I am carrying them until I need them. I used the Bushnells on the elk hunt since they were more clear and had a wider field of view than my Zeiss.
Steve they look like the Rick Young pair. I didn't notice your post on the 1st page. I went to his site and checked it out.
I can't recommend these inexpensive, simple, versatile, comfortable and functional harnesses enough. They are the best in my opinion.
Good luck in your search.
Gil
Thanks Gil
Let all give Gil a Cookie...He finally turn me on to something good,,Oh ,,and them five and dime store Harrisons,,,Hehe....
I have tried several different ones including crooked horn my current favorite is the S4 gear harness.
