I've been using fletch-tite platinum to glue on fletching and have been having problems with them coming off. I cleaned the shaft with alchohol before fletching. Should I rough the shaft up with sandpaper first? Is there a better adhesive that I should be using?
Clean with acetone, it works better. I use fletch tape and it hold real well.
Use some arrow wraps, for me I always wrap my carbons. The feathers stick great and they are alot easier to redo later when and if needed. They are inexpensive and easy to put on.I just don't like scraping off the old feather off a bare carbon shaft.Carbon's are tough but can be gouged if to rough scraping off old featers.
Wraps for me too. Never a problem with sticking.
Wraps and fletch tape, with a dab of glue at each end of all the feathers, works great for me...DB
If you want to fletch right to the shaft I have been using one of the super glues for years with no problems. I like the loktite or gorilla brands the best (they are easy to apply without a bunch of run off).
I use wraps and superglue. Superglue will work great on the bareshaft, but scrapping it off when you go to refletch SUCKS! :banghead:
I was roughing them up with 0000 steel wool and cleaning with alcohol. Seemed to work really good. Recently have switched to wraps. Makes refletching alot easier.
Bill
Emory cloth, then acetone, the fletchtite. Arizona ez fletch.
Done deal.
I made up my first couple sets with super glue and no wraps. Never again.
Wraps all the way, I would rather have the added expense of new wraps/feathers than dealing with trying to scrape super glue off the shaft.
I have used fletch tape, but it does not seem to hold as good as glue for me. Your mileage may vary. It is nice to pull fletching that has been taped though.
I wipe shaft (or wrap if using) with Isopropyl Alcohol and use Bohning tape. Also put a drop of glue on each end.
I've had one feather start to come loose (put a drop of glue on it and good as new) in 2 yrs. I shoot just about every day.
X2 on tape and wraps.
