This past Saturday, some buddies, most of us PBS members and local friends....organized an outing at a shooting preserve to soak up some much needed winter sunshine and limber up our muscles. Armed with our bows and quivers full of flu-flu's, we took after some "released" birds for some fun and socializing. I think a good time was had by all of us. I won't go into too many details. We purchased 15 birds, and using the dogs to find them, took home 9 of them, while 6 joined up with their "wild" cousins. Of the nine, the dogs "beat us" to 4, I think. Anyway, while not a truly wild hunt, there is plenty of action, great scenery, good training for the dogs, handlers, and shooters...and a lot of much needed R and R for some winter-weary Montanans'. Enjoy the pics!

Nice looking setters! Are they lewellins?
Thanks all....it was a VERY nice day. If it wasn't 70 degrees....it was darn close! 9 out of 15....but remember, the dogs got to at least 4 of them, if I'm thinking right. Of course thats not until we took at least one chance at them!
That is Bruce and son, Ben. Good seeing those two again. Ben is growing up to be a fine young man!
Two of the dogs were English setters, and one Brittany. All three were great hunters, and made the day very enjoyable. The dogs owners were very impressed and were "on" for next year's outing.....
Great way to spend the day.
Looks like a great time was had by all including the dogs! Congrats on a fine outing!
Love your pics/stories Mark!

Great thread! I have a huge soft spot for english setters, theres not a finer campanion/hunting dog out there in my opinion. I raised them for years, and that one with alot of black on him reminds me of my favorite of all time, Speck. Finest dog I ever had the privelge of knowing!
