Title: A little scouting and roving
Post by: maineac on March 11, 2012, 03:14:00 PM
Headed out this morning to explore the piece I started hunting two years ago, and focused on this fall.  Trying to learn how the deer move through the property and pick out ambush sites.  Decided to bring the bow along.

First arrow of the day, about 23 yards.

Headed to a crossing on a power line, and set up a trail cam, just to see if they are still using it.

Explored awhile and headed back.

Took a shot across a stream into and area logged last spring

This stump was still a bit hard.

Found a nice trail for around here (our deer tend to wander, rather than stick to defined trails.

I followed it for a bit as I knew where it was coming from, and found this.

There was this area, that was dug out a bit, notice the deer hair.  I think it might be a natural mineral lick, but not sure.  The hair seems to be from shedding.

Another wider view, it is at the base an old small root ball, now covered in grass.

Trail petered out, not far from the hole I found a bed with shed hair.

Killed some other stumps I didn't take trophy shots of and headed home.  Great morning, and it is a great time to be out in the woods scouting for next season.  Trails are more obvious, scrapes are still easy to spot.  Plus it was great to stretch the legs and shoulders.  Thanks for coming along.

Thanks for the pics. I miss home so much, haven't lived there since 98 and the longer I'm away the more I miss it.

I went out yesterday with Monsterbuck (Hobie) and we had a great time just walking the ridges and shooting stumps.

Looks like you had fun as well!!!
