I bought a 100 pack of 5/16" birch wood dowels following the thread in the How-to. I stained them using a dark walnut and put on 4 coats of wipe-on Poly. They came out to around 30" OAL with 125 gr tips. They weigh around 575-580 grains. I'm shooting them out of my 45# Grizzly and they shoot great! They weigh about 60 grains more than the 2016's I was shooting. I do notice a little more arrow drop, but the bow is much quieter. I used a drill for the homemade Sharpie cresting. What do you guys think? I'm liking them a lot. They're not perfect by any means, but they shoot good. :archer2: Thanks to the How-to section, they turned out pretty good for some cheap arrows.

I think they look good.
NICE!! :clapper:
I like those a lot. Love the colors.
I wish my first arrows looked that good. Wonderful job.
Very nice! That stain looks sweet!
Those are nice!!! I like your color combo as well, good job
Thanks for all of the compliments. Woodies are so much more work than aluminums or carbons....but they sure are worth the work and time. I can't wait to take a critter with one of them. I've got some broadheads on the way. I love this site.
Nice looking arrows, I like them all, especially the centre one without the stain under the fletch.
You did real good.

Yeah, I made a couple of those to see which I liked the best. I also like the two tone arrows better.
Nicely done
very nice !
Very nice, wouldnt have guessed they were your first. :clapper:
Those are really nice and quite similar to the first dozen I made a few months ago. My cresting is a bit naff though as I did it by hand.

Here's what I used to make them.

They really look good, like the color of those shifts.
Good looking arrows. Half the fun and lure of wood is working with them. Good job. :)
Great job. They look real nice.
Very nice looking set of arrows!
Wood arrows are just plain fun. Congratulations on your first batch, they look great.
Dodger, you have good taste in color and style :goldtooth:
LOL.
Wow, very sharp! Making my own wood arrows is my next personal challenge to myself. I'll be happy if my first batch turns out half this good!
Thom

Yep same here. It sure is fun making your own arrows isn't it? And you get to play around with different stains, cresting, and feathers all in the same dozen.
when I go into wood arrows I made my own cresting machine. I'll have to dig out the photos but it was real easy and way cheaper than buying one.
And one last thing, When I make mine I also use wipe on poly and do like 4 coats and then do another 2 or 3 coats over the entire arrow after cresting. Helps the cresting hold up much better.
The look really nice----you did a very good job. Thanks for showing them to us.
Sweet arrows, Well Done!
They look great!!!  God bless.
Nice arrows!
Look great!
I received some snuffers that I bought on the classifieds today and decided to see how they would fly. They flew perfect without having to make any tuning adjustments. I guess I got lucky on the tuning of the arrows. Thanks to many on this site, I can't wait until next deer season! I just booked my first out of state hunt to Pike Co, Illinois during the rut. :bigsmyl: :archer2:
Looks great to me, Congrats
Excellent job, AWESOME lookin arrows, really to pretty to shoot.
Ya did good! Be warned arrow making is addicting.

I think they look damn good, especially for the first go at it. I tried and mine ended up holding windows in the summer. Nice arrows sir you should be proud, I know I would be.
