Ralph if I could built a bow that suited me I wouldn't be spending money for someone else to build it for me..just saying....lol

I will be watching the replies from those who can do what I can't.

Good off season discussion question.

God bless,Mudd

The perfect bow in my mind is simple. I almost have it now in the Eaglewing talon. I have the 58" version but the 56" would be the perfect lenght I think. I have always loved handle forward designs. It just seems to be more accurate in my hand. I am talking strickly as a hunting bow I would like a 56" handle forward bow in the green action wood color. I have alway like that sort of grean camo in a bow.

Ralph I'm to fickle to choose...  let's be honest   :)

I have my go to and they are R/D longbows all 2pc carbon td's...  the diameter is not as important as the wrist (med, low) and width as I shoot with a loose grip. But now that I'm building a few bow and experimenting my perfect bow is the next one that's done???

I would have thought for sure Ralph you would have said perfect is the one the USPS just dropped on the porch   :)

PS...  Who would you choose to build your dream bow?

"64" string follow longbow carbon back, belly, small handle 4.75" around throat cut slightly past center slight dish grip carbon takedown sleeve cottonmouth skins back low fifties!!"

A Wes Wallace Royal,  68 inch - 50 @ 28.  Carbon on the back and belly.   Copper head skins.  Extra fancy curly myrtle wood riser and belly veneer.  Two piece take down.

Truth is there are many fine bowyers that build great bows and I've had a bunch of them to me the string follow design is the most forgiving to shoot quiet and fast enough especially with carbon thinking out loud here!

I'm a fan of long limbs.

It's too bad Norm Johnson of Blacktail Bows or Wes Wallace of Wes Wallace Archery doesn't build a 68" take down or one piece recurve with a 19" riser and 24.5" limbs.

Hunted with a northern mist Shelton first part of the season last year hit everything I shot at before climbing down practice shots anyhow hit a vine with arrow the only shot I had at deer with that bow, seems like it would be a easy bow to build with carbon and reinforce the riser for center shot.

sorry Kip guess i missed your question i have talked to several bowyers about building that bow most don't want to mess with thier design and i kinda don't blame them espescially if they are several months out!

Steve Tallant and i talked about it he seems to be open to the idea!

i might play around with a blank myself to see how it goes it won't be carbon backed obviously but might be fun!

hi Tom yes maybe you could get away with the reverse handle with carbon as far as cast goes but i am thinking the reverse handle with string follow would be a slug? dunno!

Perfect....or my "dream" bow!

First I would have to somehow obtain a set of original Bear TD latches (complete with their original plastic brown bears).  This is why it is a dream.....anyone who would have such a set would probably never want to part with them.

Second, I would find a most competent bowyer willing to duplicate the Bear TD Type I "A" riser.  I would send him a piece of the wildest curly koa you have ever laid eyes on.  It has been sitting in my wood pile in the basement for about 7 years.  I also have a large chunk of old pre-ban brazilian rosewood that is nice and streaky.  I would then have said competent bowyer use the koa for the main body of the riser and the rosewood for the riser "wings".  Install the "dream" latches and...taadaa...one true custom Bear "A" riser!

Third, I would have Sid at Border Archery in Scotland build me a short set of his HEX6-H/BB2 carbon limbs for the riser. Maybe do a custom celtic knot on the back of the limbs for that personal touch.

I would have a one-of-a-kind 58" Bear-style "A" TD with modern fast limbs.  Yes....I would smile!

My choice would be Osage, sinew backed selfbow, 50# @ 28".  The length does not matter as much as weight and draw lenght.

I have two new designs that I want to build this year. The one that Ralph mentioned and a really neat survival bow that using the same limb will be either a string follow or a slight d and r simply by turning the limb over.
I definately (Lord willing) will be building the string follow with carbon and Ralph will get the proto type of it.

God bless you all, Steve

I already own my perfect hunting bow. Centaur carbon elite with stippled grip, bacote riser and and a eagles flight quiver holding my arrows. Simple, elegant, and tough.

they are great bows Mike

Kanati's are shooters too!

string follow double carbon cut to or past center bacote riser nice narrow tips maybe beefed up riser to allow smaller grip!

Call up Dan Toelke...I told him I wanted a Short tree stand bow to make 20yrd or closer shots,a recurve, and all Black..But I told him I did not want to follow the wide limbs down in to my riser..So he made me a 52" sheep horn tips,Recurve limb, then tapperd it dowin to a Whip Riser, narrow with a thumb rest,It shipped to Big Jim for a Beavertail grip and Diamondbacks skins,,I took out a 3rd Morgage on my Horse Farm to pay for it,But it  is my Truly Custom Bow..Dan can and will do any thing you want,,,,

68" r/d with a heavy 24" riser and reverse taper limbs.  It would have carbon on the back with the limb core carmelized bamboo.  Not too concerned about the type of wood or color of the glass.

I built the perfect bow but...............

The wife grabbed it up and I was left to build myself a bow from the scraps.

I'm not sure exactly what I want, but I would ask Chuck Deshler, Bill Dunn, and South Cox to collaborate on it. I'd ask Chuck to pick out some Premium Pure Michigan wood, Bill to design a foam core limb, and South to engineer the riser and grip. Then they would need to collaborate on the build. 58", 50#@29", hybrid longbow or static tip limb recurve.

Owlbait,

You took the words right out of my mouth!  Not a collaboration effort, but a 58" 52@28 static tip from South in the making.  We all know how this works, so at this time I consider this "my perfect bow"  Exciting stuff...

I got a 60" Ben Pearson Cougar Recurve from my dad forty years ago and shot my first several deer with it, I still have it. Its a righty or lefty.   I wish I could have one just like that but with Bob Morrisons carbon/foam limbs and snakeskins. Would be just great!

I am going to give it a shot... For me it would be a fire fly route66 riser and grip, Brandywine with Maple accents. Set up with ILF Quilted Maple limbs, recurve, FF, center shot.60" 51#@27" Kanati slim jim quiver black with red stitch. Name on bow...FLIP"N"STICK

Lots of bear fans as well loved the latch takedown I had one time just too heavy 65 lbs

I already have 3 perfect bows Ralph. 2 Griffins and a shrew.  The only thing more that I could ask for is a little more figure in their veneers.   :bigsmyl:

I'd convince (its a fantasy right?) Brandon Stahl at Rose Oaks to make a LH version of his takedown that accepts his Bear Limbs.  The bow would be Macassar and Curly Maple. It would be an A-size riser.

You bet I'm serious. That would be a very cool project. No help on the Bear latches though. Have you tried contacting Bear Archery? if we cant come up with them I'll bet we could replicate them..... with Bears permission of course.

Warning!... this could get a little pricey to pull off and do it right. Half the fun will be replicating the Hex 6 limbs.   ;)    Kirk

I have contacted Bear Archery and bought the latches used on Mag risers. However, the woodie risers have a metal piece glued to the riser.  They would not provide me this part. Obviously they have them because they make the new TDs from them.

Maybe...they don't want folks to replicate this riser?

Since nothing is Perfect, my 60" Super Shrew is probably close as it gets for me. Its as stable as my 68" inchers, a blind that is too small for this bow is too small for me too.

I havent shot'em all, but its the best all around hunting/fun shooting bow I've ever shot. It does everything well!

The only improvement would be a T/D, and I dont need one sooo..

The 62" Kanati I just received. Lower than normal grip fits my hand like a glove. Bow draws as smooth as butter and shoots great.

Now I need to do myself a favor and stay off the classifieds lest I find another one for a backup.   :bigsmyl:

Is that the 62" one you just got from Elkken ?. That must be a shooter like every kanati I have come across. That grip really looks nice from the pic you sent. Congrats to you Mr "CJ". IMHO, the best Hybrid longbow for the money going and a heck of a fellow building them.
