I recently had made a couple of arrows just for stump shooting and finally had the chance to get out and shoot them this past Sunday.
They are Beaman carbons .600 (skinnys) with an Ace Hex 145 gr followed by a Muzzy Grasshopper(20gr.) The carbon has an aluminum footing(1813) to keep things together...

Nasty looking, and almost is as big as a small bowling ball when you are making your draw.

-
Should be able to do some serious stumpin' with that setup, nice work. J
PS- what glue or epoxy did you use...
-
Headed down to the bottom and thought this was pretty unusual, they like the wetlands, but in the middle of a creek?

Here was the first shot. The broken end of a limb sticking up in the air about three feet,

A clean miss, just off to the left. Those hex heads look huge. You have to look hard to see this one,the silver footing is to the left of the stick.

Great looking stumping arrows, Craig.
-
What do you use to keep the aluminum foot on?
-
Thanks Ron. This next photo to stump shooters is like having a nice 10 pt roaming your back yard.
All nice and punky orange,it even sounds like a vital shot when you hit it.

JB Weld makes a good secure bond. This next shot was a small piece of stump sticking up. The shot felt good...

and was.
Maybe I will be able to get use to that big hunk of steel out there.
-
This whole area use to be farmed, and the soil down in the bottom is very rich. I wonder how many rows of corn this put down before it called quits?
Notice the trees growing up through it.
-
I hunted close to this scrape this season, never had a shot. The year before I missed the same buck from the same location on two separate occasions.

great pics. thx for posting
-
You are welcome Tom,thanks for looking.
Out there a couple of yards was a piece of stump just behind the one that is horizontal. I try to keep my stumping in line with my hunting which is close. Every now and then you have to just let one go.

I did not miss by a whole lot,but I missed. (http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/rr330/livrht/DSCF6013.jpg)

Heading north now up into some thick stuff. Not a huge rub,but it sure looked pretty in early March.
-
OK, I know I do not have to explain this one. Maybe 13 yards.
-
There is some brush in the way but I think I can snake it through.
Ticked off of some of that brush and hit a little low.

The thing I like most about stumping is the things you see and find sometimes.

I started to carry a backpack along, old bottles, sheds, trash. It comes in handy.

If this holds its water for another couple weeks the Spring Peepers will be singing their love songs.

Stumping also invites imagination. Across that pond there is a nice Bull Elk bedded down. His vitals are between the saplings, with the leaf being his heart. It is a shot and a half for this guy,but he has no clue I am here.
-
A better shot of those vitals, shhhhhhhhh.
-
Well, not in the leaf, but not a close shot either.
I may have to track this one.
-
A clearer photo.

Sun was out today but there was a steady breeze blowing out of the west...

This would have been a treasure find had it been complete, a very old Coca-Cola bottle with the town of Shamokin printed across the top. Very cool.

Two of my favorite woods,Walnut and Oak....

-
Time for a break.
-
I do not know if you guys can make it out but 3/4 of the way up that Oak and between the tree to the left of it you can see the roof of a barn. That tractor earlier in the post is just below the barn.
We are almost to the top.

Stumping/roving is a lot of fun and great practice. Great pics!

Nature's design.

Spring is right around the corner,I think this guy is leading the parade. Caddis fly???????? (http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/rr330/livrht/DSCF6027.jpg)

You know, I have come to conclude that my favorite stump shot is the hole shot. Your concentration just fills it right up. This one is exactly 15 yards,I stepped it off.
-
The funny thing is I missed a nice doe on this sidehill just to the left of this. The last week of the late season, sitting on my Waldrop at 18 yards.
Right over her back. She would have been in trouble this time.

Big trouble.

I think the local SWAT team may be interested in those arrows for taken down doors during drug raids.
Very nice walk you took me on, Thanks
-
I really enjoyed this. You have inspired me to take a break soon and get out in the woods to do some stumping.
Thanks.
Oh, by the way, how do you like those Grasshoppers? Do they hold up as well as Judos? I have been thinking about trying some of those behind my Small Game Thumpers.
-
That was fun, thanks for taking us along. Nice pictures too.

very nice

Guys, glad you enjoyed it. If you have never gotten out stumping you are really missing a great time and some great hunting practice.
Thanks for the I.D. on the Stonefly,I am a garden hackle fan myself,so was not sure.
The Grasshoppers worked great and those Hex blunts are destroyers. The combo worked real well together.
Thanks again,
Craig
-
I sure enjoyed the walk and the shooten ,maybe next time I will give you some competition (LOL)
fantastic pictures.
-
From one PA stump hunter to another, I really enjoyed the walk. If you ever want to chase some stumps in Fulton Co. let me know. The stump herd could always use some thinning.
-
Like what you have done with your stumping arrows!
-
Aaahhhh Monkeyball, another great trip through the scenic hills of Northumberland county, Pennsylvania! Brian and I will have to join you on the next roving adventure.....or as soon as he figures out how to master that cotten picken' Cricket-clicker!!! I'm aluminum footing some shafts as well...it's the only way to fly.....! Good pics old friend.......time for some peanut butter/ oatmeal cookies..........jackdaw

Well done Craig!

Thanks Craig, Really enjoyed the pics.
-
Craig, Simply enjoyable. Thank you. You never disappoint...

Great pics as usual Craig, however you should be flinging them arras, fun to watch them hit from afar.
