Title: Anybody from Grand Forks, North Dakota area
Post by: plentycoupe on March 05, 2012, 10:30:00 AM
Hey all,

Well I am moving from sunny Alaska to Grand Forks, North Dakota this October.
Will be teaching ROTC at the University of ND!

I just finished my any deer archery application.

Any trad shooters from this area? How the hunting? I will be looking to get into some shooting with my girl and kids when we get settled so would like to know what is in the area.

Thanks all and am looking forward to the new area!

Jason

Nobody? How about North Dakota in general. Anyone know of any trad archery clubs or shoots?

You will have hunting for waterfowl and upland birds ( sharptails, Huns and pheasants). Whitetails , muledeer in the badlands and antelope when the season opens again . The best walleye fishing in the lower 48 along with other fish .We have just come off of 3 of the worst winters in our history so some game populations are way down mainly deer and pheasants but we have just had the mildest winter in history so they should start their recovery it wont take  long . We had one of the best deer pop. you could ever imagine, taking a drive in the evening and it was not uncommon to see a thousand deer but not now !!As I said before there is also good bear hunting in Minn. not far from Forks And good deer hunting in If you can find a place to hunt or stay on public land. There is the red river archers archery club but it is all high tech . They have a indoor shoot every year at winters end or early spring I usally attend but shots are mostly beyond 35 yards. Most shoots have stickbow classes and some have quite a few of us you'll meet many. I personally like the Gforks area of the bigger cities in ND It has some of the best hunting close by and nice people . I live about 120 miles from there give me a call and you are welcome to come by anytime ...Tim

I live in southeast ND, about 20 miles SW of Fargo.  The deer took a hit the last few years but there are still plenty of deer around.  The waterfowl hunting has been outstanding the last few years.  You will find lots of nice folks in North Dakota and it is a place where you can still get permission to hunt with a handshake.  Good luck and have fun in ND!

I am a member of the Sandhills Archers in Fargo ND. You will find a good club there in Grand Forks as well. ND is a great state as described by Tim Finley. What is nice about being on the eastern boarder is you have access to both MN and ND hunting.
Let me know if you get down to the Fargo area, we have quite the tradgang here as well.

Welcome to North Dakota

Seems that the farther west you go, the more traditional shooters you'll find.  Might have something to do with the landscape... the west is more conducive to wandering and stumping.  There are a few of us in the east, though.  Will look forward to seeing you around!

Good to see some ND guys around here.
I have moved to and from North Dakota three times now, but don't expect to leave again.

I do spend equal amounts of time in both states, as I am blessed to have relatives/friends in both states that have huntable acreages. I like the variety of the two states- quite a difference between western ND and Northern MN.
PM sent to you, PC.
