Hey Gang,
just back from spending the last 7 weeks in Texas running hog and javelina hunts for Mule Creek Outfitting (sponsor). Some of the hunts were non trad but we had two groups of Tradgang folks in late February. We hunted the University Ranch NW of Crane, TX – a lease many of us have hunted in the past with our friend Littlefeather (CK) when he was doing Seventh Age. This ranch is 100 square miles of mesquite brush, cattle, oil wells and water holes with some tough west Texas feral hogs.

Dustin's group was the last one through camp.

Here is TG member buckster and his friend Lindel with a nice mid sized boar that had a big boar attitude... maybe Barry will chime in with the story.

My 16 month old tracking teckel Grätsche got lots of practice and got all fired up about her work after tangling with a 190 pound boar that was still ready to fight at the end of a blood trail. She graduated from good to "Where do you get a dog like that?!!!"
We will have a booth at the Traditional Archery Expo in Waterloo, Iowa the weekend of March 9-11. Stop on by and visit Grätsche and me. Always ready to talk about self bows, tracking dogs and remember... the 2013 hunts in Texas are only 10 month away!

I spent a couple weeks remodeling the old machine shop into a comfortable trad hunters' lodge.

Looks good. Thanks for sharing. That blue sky looks good. :)
Thanks to Shaun and GRATSCHE for a great time. They were both awesome hosts! Buckster needs to get on here and lay out the horrid details of "when hogs attack"!
BTW, Shaun did a great job on the facilities! Very comfortable living quarters, hot shower and hot meals go a LONG WAY in my book. Shaun is a pretty dang good cook too.
Hey Shaun i have wondering what you have been up to.
look forward to seeing you next weekend!
Looking forward to seeing you at Waterloo, Shaun. Tom
Hey Shaun, you got it looking good around there. I hope to get back over there someday soon, those pictures bring back Great memories.
Great hunt and host! My hunting buddy Lindell & I tag-teamed this billigerant fellow on a long stalk hunt. We felt like Tred Barta... "doing it the hard way". Lindall got the first shot, but hit him a bit back in the ham. After searching over and hour , we found no blood but i was lucky to pick out his track to a mesquite grove, which ended the ordeal with a quick twist of plot!
Note to self.. Boars do and will charge you & knock you on your can quick when double-lunged at 8 yards! :archer2: :archer2:
We had a terrific time with Shaun, Gresche. And Mule Creek Outfitters.
Looks like a nice place. Thanks for posting lots of photos.
Congrats Barry and that looks like a nice camp Shaun.
Been looking at hog hunts. Will have to stop and visit you Shaun.
Congrats!

A few more pics for Dave. We give names to the various spots based on hunting history.

Looks good Shaun! Need to get back down there.
TTT - this week is the expo in Waterloo. Counting down to Friday. There has been some interest in an early July hog hunt in the heat. They should be easy to find at water that time of year.
Looking forward to hearing some hog tales, Shaun. Tom
July in Texas!
Hey Shaun We'll be back again next year,Hopefully same time.I'll be talkin to ya ..Bill
Bill, you and the rest of the Wild and Wonderful Whites gang are welcome back anytime! Your group set the standard for "go out and find 'em" hunting. Glad that big sow was running the other way when you went down, not that your companions seemed too worried as they waited for a shot instead of running to your aid...
Shaun,I was the one waiting for a shot,we was just using Tim for the bait..As soon as I get a couple more commitments I'll give ya a call.Bill
Will Bill if you need a spot filled just let me know..
A couple notes on license requirements; You DO need a license to hunt feral hogs. The TX game laws state that you do not need one if you are the landowner or his agent hunting for damage control only. If you are hunting for the hunt, then you need the license. 5 day non resident license costs $48. Full year for everything but deer and turkey costs about $160 and full privileges non resident yearly tag is about $360. You can also buy as many 5 day tags as you like.
If you are born after September2, 1971... you also need to have a hunter safety card (or your home state hunting license which shows you have hunter safety)to hunt in Texas. By a silly quirk in the law, you do not need this to buy a license, but you need to have it and show it to the warden when you are checked.
Shaun: Thanks for the great time and fellowship with kindred spirits. Looking forward to seeing you at Clarksville,Bukster and me are heading up for the full 3 day and plan to do the self bow build and shoot it for score. Oh yes thanks for mailing me my long johns!
Man Shaun, I'd have just struck a match to them funky long johns of Lindall's! We will look forward to seeing you in Clarksville my friend.
