My feathers keep coming off using the bohning platinum glue, I have used the tape, little better, they get a little damp and the feathers pretty much fall off, the old bohning glue worked great. What is everyone else using, thanks Kenny.
I forgot to mention, I am using aluminum arrows.
I shoot aluminum arrows and I use Gateway feathers. When fletching my arrows, I use Bohning Platinum Fletch-Tite glue.
Never have any problems with my feathers becoming unglued from my arrows.
I do use acetone to prepare my arrow shafts for fletching. This gets rid of any oils or anything else on the aluminum surface that might contaminate the surface which would make the feathers become unglued.
I purchased 3 tubes and then found out on the 3 rivers site that this glue is not compatable with aluminum arrows ,same trouble fletch falling off. I have been using fletch tape and soon went back.Maxx
Same as me old buddy Max,went back to the old Fletch-tite,good as new ,I've fletched hundreds with it and never had a problem.
I use fletch tite platinum on aluminum shafts and haven't had any problems. I scrub the shaft with 0000 steel wool, then wipe clean with alcohol and fletch. They seem to be holding well for over a year.
I use goat tuff.
Consider a crown dip w Bohning product. I have used that process on wood, carbon and aluminum w/o any problems.
I have used Fletch tite for years on wood, aluminum and recently carbon. I prefer the older version as opposed to the Platinum. Recently I tried Duco hobby glue and found it worked great and will probably use it more in the future.
Bohning fletch tape, clean your shafts good with alcohol let them dry good, tape your feathers on put a dab of duco on each end of the fletch and let em dry good . Works on carbon or aluminum great. Dont shoot wood so I am not sure how it works on wood, but I dont have any problems with carbon or aluminum.
I use wraps platium works good,so does crazy glue an goat tuff. wraps are the ticket see one stringer here on tradgang.if you dont like wraps use a product from him called double doggs this also is a wrap but it is clear you cant tell its there this will cure your problem it gives something for the glue to bond to.good luck ED
Old recipe/ Platnum if there's a difference I wouldn't know it. My feathers still have to be scraped off to replace.
I tried the platinum about acouple of weeks ago. I use comet to clean shafts then wipe with alcohol, and out of the six I fletched 4 had feathers fall off. I did this as a test for me, then went back to Ducco with no problems so far.
Agreed, I used to lose at least one feather every time I shot when I was using Platinum. That happened with shaft prep too, although with the old stuff I used to just scrape the feather off with a knife and put on the new one and it was fine.
As for fletch tape, I haven't lost a feather since I started using it...shooting it through targets, into the dirt, into grass.
I really like the bohning fletch tape. It is fast and is mess free. You have to make sure you shaft is CLEAN!! I dont use any glue on the ends of my feathers and they stay put.
Guys, what is & where do you pick up "fletch tape"

I understand the formula for Platinum has changed to make it export friendly. The new version won't bond to aluminum unless you wrap it. Old tubes of it should work from what I understand. I changed to Duco.

Platinum on top of wraps - plus a spot of glue on the front tip of the fletch and I've never had any problems.
Wraps from OneStringer and fletch tape from one of our sponsors here works on aluminum shafts for me. Carbon shafts, too.

Elknut 1,I get my fletchtape from 3 rivers 1 roll will do nearly 4 dozen arrows with 3 - 5" fletches. It is a little frustrating till you figure out some little tricks that make it a lot easier. Pm me of you want to know some tricks that I do when using fletch tape that make life alot easier.
macksdad, thank you! I will PM you.

Same problem, feathers coming off, went to tape, no problems.
I have problems with Duco on wraps. I use tape and glue the ends now.
what does everyone use if staining shafts with tru oil? heat shrink cap wrap and then glue to it?
Use fletching tape and super glu top and bottom on ends and a dot in the middle of the feather. Use enough so it's smooth on ends.
Works well for me.

For wood, Duco. No working time with superglue and I don't like the white residue.
Hey Brock....use Duco on shafts that are sealed with Tru-oil. Used that combo for years on wooden shafts without any problem.
Super Glue I use drys clear

All I shoot is aluminumn, tape works great!!
To take some of the grief out of applying tape if you have the shakes like me , clamp feather then clamp feather clamp in a small 3" vise that way things stay still.
No problems for me except when I short-changed the prep.

Hi Kenny,
I had the same problem and went back to Fletch Tite Platinum. My feathers will wear out before they become unglued.
Thanks for all the input, lots of ideas gonna give them a try, thanks again Kenny.
Well, I have said it before, and I will say it again... Saunders NPV Fletching Glue is THE Best on the Planet!! Of course, I am biased, since I have been using it almost 12 Years and havent lost a Fletch Yet!
I used bohning platinum for years until I watched Rob D's video on how to prepare the feather and shaft before applying it. Once I used his method I was sold on it.
Thanks again everyone, I went ahead and fletched some arrows, cleaned them off with acetone first, then used steel wool to clean any other residue that was there, and cleaned with acetone again, used duco cement and been shooting them with no problems, this is a great site to get good info, thanks for all your input, Kenny.
One stringer wraps and problem solved
