Title: Lost my Traditional Mind! Carbon/plastic fletchings Arrows
Post by: joebuck on July 25, 2007, 10:54:00 AM
The handful of folks that know me on this board, know I'll walk 5 miles in the woods just to find a turkey primary feather to make a fletching out of it rather than pay 25 cents and buy one. I make almost everthing I use from my bows to calls to etc....it's my passion...HOWEVER..I just shot some carbon arrows with 2" blazer plastic fletchings and WAM.......anyone else shooting plastic fletching basically off the shelf?  Is it these new Blazer flethings? I know some people shoot plastic off a stick on rest and sorts..

Havent tried them yet but did have a recurve shooting 5 in. vanes off the shelf as good as feathers awhile back in case of rain....

Your right Steertalker  :scared:   i feel really dirty right now...maybe I need to go back and read Witchery of Archery or my autographed first edition of Instintive Shooting with pork chop grease on every other page....I'm fletching 3 up now with 4" feathers to compare against 2" Plastic Blazers. But my glass recurve is shooting these like an asprin......oh gosh.......whats next........

Those are "rain" arrows   ;)  .  I have a rest on my Silvertip, I wouldn't want to try off the shelf.  I fletch them up 60x120 four fletch and they steer Woodsmen and Razorcaps exactly like my feathers out to 45 yards.  3" of wrap and 4 Blazers wigh the same as 7" of wrap and 4-4" feathers.

Carbons are fine, but I doubt those little plastics will control a broadhead.
Broadheads are like women, have to have em under control all the time or you've lost the game.
Hey I like that, hmmm new sig line.    :bigsmyl:

Cushion plunger ???? Hmmmm......Just couldn't stand it so i ripped off the plastic blazers....They shot a whole lot quieter than feathers for obvious reasons. But I realized I'm not Norm's shooting machine and the only advantage really at 20 yards and in is they work better in rain which I hunt in rain maybe 2 hours every 5 years so i put 3 -4" feathers on... HOWEVER this brings me to another problem or Peave i have with Archery Shop Know it Alls....I bought the Full Metal Jacket 340 from Bass Pro..( sorry Ed) and as I watched the KIA (know it all)from behind the counter insert the inserts with epoxy, I said  "Hey... shouldn't you spin those inserts once you seat them in the shaft to "true" them up so BH will spin perfect.?"......he said "Naw, these are high tec carbons not like those alluinium shafts you been shootin"  Got home 1 out 6 spins true...  :knothead:

I called Easton and asked was this the case and "Cody" from Easton said ." heck no, you must spin them, what's your address, i'm going to send you some BH adapters free to correct the Bass Pro expert."......it was nice to get treatment like this

I was shooting on our broadhead course tonight...took out the heart of a 40 yard cardboard buck with a rain arrow tipped with a Razorcap.
