Title: Making Flu Flus?
Post by: Pettit877 on February 26, 2012, 12:41:00 PM
Can i buy full legth feathers and measure them to my wanted length and cutt for flu flus. i'm planning on straight fletching them not spirals. I guess i'm just wondering if there is anything else that would need to be done to them other than being cut to length.

If you're not making spiral flu-flus there's not really any special prep required for the feathers. Its quite straightforward.   Straight fletch will give a little more distance / speed or you can add a little more helical if you want them to stop quicker. So it may take a few tries to dial in on # of feathers, size of feathers and amount of helical that you want, but fletching them is pretty basic.

You can do that, Eric.  I have made up some flu-flus by cutting full length feathers in about one inch pieces and stuck them on with fletch tape.  No pattern, no fletching jig.  I just stuck a few on each arrow.  They worked great.

I just made some out of full length feathers. If you go with 4 inch feathers you can get two feathers out of one full length.
