I have owned several bows made by numerous different bowyers, but I have "yet" to own anything with snakeskins on the limbs.
THAT......is in the process of being "changed".
About two years ago (almost exactly) I had a Zipper SXT with longbow limbs built for me by Bill Dunn. The bow was 64" long and the woods of choice for me was macassar ebony and tulipwood in the riser, seperated by a strip of red phenolic. The belly of the limbs have tulipwood and the back is carbon with foam cores.
My original thought and plan was (and still is) to have Bob Morrison put some copperhead skins on the back of the limbs to cover the black carbon. Some people like the "look" of carbon, but I am NOT one of those people. I like things that are "pretty"......and the black carbon just doesn't "do it" for me.
Anyways.........I had a temporary, (although some people may not think it was so temporary) TOTAL lapse of "reason" and sold the bow to explore what I "thought" was greener pastures. :notworthy:
The "red-headed step-child" is currently residing with Bob Morrison. I am sure that he will turn my "already beautiful" bow into something that will make the women jealous, and grown men cry.
So..............in the mean time, can some of ya'll that have copperhead skinned limbs PLEASE post a few pics, so that I can clean some drool off my keyboard ???
Thanks.........in advance :campfire:

Great story...best of luck with the return of your long-lost one. Hope it holds as much magic as you remember.
Glad to hear she's coming home Don.
Sounds like the reunion of a long lost friend.
Good choice Don. I love the copperheads especially since they are native to WV.
There's nothing like family!
We sure have it here. :campfire:

Congrats on getting your child back.Hug her every day just to make sure she stays true. I to have a zipper bow and we will grow old together.
Your bow has one of the best looking risers I've ever seen posted here. The Copperhead skins should really "Set it Off". Congrats on finding your bow and being able to get it back.
I know the feeling. I sold a Firefly a couple years ago and it has been making it's rounds on the classifieds. I tried to get it back a couple times and came up short and was finally able to work a trade to get her home. She came back with a couple dings but in great shape.
Fantastic to hear Don, I know you loved that bow and glad you found her. Just think how amazing that is.
Great choice on skins also. I really like the copperheads.

I love copperhead skins on bows. They are very dark, though, over black & dark brown because they're so thin.
bob is putting copperheads on my robertson as we speak. hopefully it will be here by wednesday. i cant wait any longer! ill try to post pics when it comes in
Thanks everyone !!!! :D
Andy.........I've already spoke to Bob with my concerns about the copperheads not showing up when being put on top of the black carbon. He has a way to "remedy that issue".
I'm thinkin' that the orange in the copperheads will look mighty fine with the tulipwood in the riser and on the belly of the limbs.
I have no idea "if" there is anything that one has to do to keep the snakeskins looking good. So perhaps some of you that already have them on your bows could give me the low-down ???

Enjoy it and send me a couple of pictures of it when it is done. Bob
No worries about the black underneath Don. Bob will paint a lighter color over the black before laying the skins down. As you say copperheads are paper thin and the color under them can drastically change their appearance.

TJ,
That's what Bob told me that he does when I gave him a call. I kinda figure that he has "skinned" enough limbs in his lifetime to know pretty much ALL the "ins and outs".
C'mon........folks, I know there are more copperhead skinned limbs out there than just one. :coffee:

Hope to see that bow at Compton's this year Don!
Glad to hear a happy ending. I love that - planning/hoping to make something happen and then doing it.
That bow pic you posted when looking changed my mind on my new Zipper(I'm on the list). I really like the red accents and will incorporate something similar into mine.
Looking forward to the "new" pics.
I have a couple from around here that are awaiting a suitable project, here are a couple of pics of one which is 48", the rack has a 19.5" inside spread for scale, I have another one that is 46".

Nice skins David !!!!
As promised......BUT.......I will follow up as soon as the sun shines again here with some pics that show the "true color" better.
For now........these will have to do.
Winterhawk1960
Closest to the "true color"

They really aren't this "dark looking"
Again......to dark, not enough natural light

Those are real sharp looking don. Glad you're happy.
Pertty nice...Congrats

The bow is going to look great with those skins and the riser combo!
