I'v tried many different wood shafts. Who has the best shafts? matched? weighted? straight? hand-spined? Thanks.
I am starting to sell premium poplars feel free to pm me and I'll see if I can help.
I hear good things about surewood shafts, and Tim at Braveheart archery is one of the best guys out there to deal with.
Check with Fletcher at the feathered shaft, or Snag at wilderness custom arrows.
Surewood Doug Fir, Hildebrand Sitka Spruce & D.Fir. Twigg Archery has a pretty good reputation for selling quality shafts, thay carry Chundoo.
I wont buy Cedar unless I can personaly look at them or know the person sorting them knows what a good shaft looks like.
Eric
SUREWOODS for sure. And Snag @ wilderness custom arrows uses surewood premiums to make amazing custom arrows.
I'd have to also go with Surewood douglas fir as well. I've purchased 3 dozen so far and I don't think I had to straighten a single one.
Now to me, douglas fir isn't much, if any, stronger than cedar. But boy they sure do shoot nice!
Check out Magnus' Premium Poplars.
The Surewood "boys" put out great matched sets in spine weight and grain weight. Douglas fir is wonderful wood to work with too.
Didn't know Matt was selling Premium Poplars. Other than that I've been getting very good quality tapered cedars from Duane at Dink's Feather shop in West Virginia.
Rick this is just starting out. We have been doing testing and research for quite some time and the results are outstanding!
Give Magnus a call, he knows everything there is to know about Wood arrows. And he is a great guy to boot!!!
Hildebrand sitka spruce, have the best...PR
Thanks Charlie but I don't think there's anybody that knows everything.
Matt,
I am sure you are right, but you seem to know more than anyone that I have talked to.
All the major woods, and their suppliers have been mentioned here. I love douglas fir shafts, and I have made some from poplar that I just can't seem to loose or break. I cannot use cedar due to an allergy to it, so those are my 2 top choices.
I'm working some Surewoods right now, great shafts. I love the grain in them. I just used a stain called 'Kona' by Rustoleum and the grain just jumps out at you! Absolutely beautiful shafts.
I've heard good things about the Poplar also and will be calling you Magnus in the near future. I'm doing up my arrows for the shoots this year.
Lots of good sponsors on TG.
Anyone gotten ahold of Wapiti POC shafts? Their website shows a good video of how their shafts are made.
Glad this question was asked. I'm soaking it in.
:campfire:
I just ordered a Test Pac from Tim at Braveheart. Looking forward to putting together the PERFECT arrows!
Thanks for the help/advice Tim.
Surewoods are a great shaft. I usually just order from them direct from Surewood. Braveheart sells them to and they have great service as well.
Surewood shafts from Braveheart or Wilderness Custom arrows (beautiful tapering job from David at Wilderness). Also, Ron LaClair may have some tapered Acme Premium shafts left over from his stash that he was selling at the Kzoo expo. All of these guys are sponsors here and are super knowledgeable about arrows.
I just got a couple dozen cedar tapered shafts from Wapiti archery. These things are very nice!!!!
I am Partial to Matt for some Awsome Goose Feathers, and I use "Lost Nation" for most of My POCs.
