I have several lbs of hog sausage that I need to use , do any of you use it in Chili or other recipes that call for ground meat ? It is a spicy sausage -not hot but spicy . Could it be used to make stuffed peppers . Come on guys/gals I know you won't let me down give me several ideas please .
Just made a frittata of sorts with , hog sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms, redskins, and cream cheese, baked with cheddar, Good eating for sure. Have also fried it up with taco seasoning, peppers and onions, and made soft tacos with it, always the old stand by of bisquits and sausage gravy. Todd
I have used it for everything in the past, and future for that matter. I love it in chili, lasagna, patties, spaghetti and even mimed with beef to make meatloaf. Almost endless ways to use it.
You can make a real good spagetti or chili with it.I use it in both of them.
Marinade very thin sliced chicken breast in Tabasco sauce and grill it along with a couple of pineapple slices. Crumble the sausage and fry it in a pan. When done cover the chicken with the sausage and pineapple and cover the all of it with melted Mexican cheese sauce.
Yeah good ideas keep them coming guys . I like the tacos and the Frittata what ever that is can you PM how you do it Todweelz ?????
Ole you are making me hungry , I'll be gone until this evening please keep the ideas coming !
I'll check back as soon as I can .
I made stuffed acorn squash with a spicier variety of pork sausage. I thought they were good.
Let us know how you make out.
Good ideas. I like to use spicy sausage in chili and meat loaf. My favorite use for it, though, is to make up a big batch of sausage gravy (half hot sausage, half breakfast sausage) to eat with biscuits or over mashed potatoes. Great breakfast up at deer camp!
Oh, this thread is going to ruin my diet :biglaugh:
Jack, take your sausage, peppers, onion, mushrooms and fry them up together, drain and put in a glass 13x9 baking dish [ spray it with Pam ] add chunks of cream cheese spoon sized, and diced up boiled potatoes, pour a dozen scrambled eggs over it and top with shred cheddar cheese, bake at 350 for a 1/2 hour, feeds 4-6 depending on appitites. Todd
I almost forgot another standby for us is patty it out in a huge patty and eat it on a hamburger bun with mustard.
Don't forget you you could make a good meat loaf.Chop a onion, bell pepper and make big patty.brown in a a little cooking oil add water and watever you may like.mushrooms.

That's what I would use it for! My extra venison sausage I mix in with my scrambled eggs topped with a little salsa and top it with pepper jack cheese

OK Jack this is enough!! I am salivating, hungry enough to eat a hog myself! I would deem this thread to be down right torture :)
I mixed it 50 50 with hamburger and it made a very tastey meatloaf.
Mixed with grits and cheese will work too.
Just invite a few of your tradgang neighbors and its all gone.
Fry Your sausage drain then mix with cream cheese. Half a bunch of Jalapeno peppers stuff with mixture. Then wrap in bacon either cook in the oven or on the grill til bacon is done.

Smothered Shrimp in Sausage Gravy.
Take it out of the casing and fry it up. Take it out and leave the fat in the pan. Add diced onion, green onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook for a few minutes. Add in some flour and make a brown roux. Add in chicken broth, and pork gravy. Add sausage back to pot, season with some pepper, worcestershire, and hot sauce. Let it simmer for an hour. Adjust salt and pepper. Add in 1-2 pounds of cleaned and deveined shrimp. Let cook for 3-5 minutes until shrimp are just done. Serve over rice or mashed potatoes.
