I was wondering if anyone builds a 58" Hill style longbow?I will be hunting out of my pop-up tent this fall.No hybreds please.I'm looking for the classic D- shape longbow.I just love how smooth these bows are to draw.
Thanks everyone,
David
I would check with Mike at 7 Lakes Longbow.
I think a 58" Hill style longbow would have a very short maximum draw lenght. Probably it would fit for a up to 5' tall young guy.
A 58" Hill Style bow that draws smoothly for any adult's draw length is going to be hard to come by.
H H Bear Cub. Very nice, my son had one.
Great Northern is making a 58" bow called the Little Creep. I don't think it is a hybred but think it is modeled after his bushbow. It still has the D style look you are looking for but has a little wider and flatter limb. I have a bushbow and I really like it.
About a close as you'll get is the Great Northern Field bow. 60" mild R/D $300, cant go wrong.

You wont when there that short.
Cut a Hill bow down that short and you wont like it, less you draw 22" or somethin'
Eric
Hard to tell. I am gonna make my own for the same reasons stated above. I would say it would be hard to go wrong with a Hill bow of any kind.

58" lil creep is the only bow i know of. id be interested to know if there are others out there.
Howard Hill also makes the Bobcat which is a 3 lam bow, 60" and up to 45# @ 27".
I had bought Izzy's sons bow and it was beautiful. I bought it for my wife but it was too heavy. I drew that Bear Cub back to 28 and was amazed how smooth and quick it was. I almost kept it for myself for a turkey blind bow.

I shoot a 62 in t/d that is smooth out to my 27in draw and love it for blind hunting
I would like to shoot a 60" string follow Hill style to compare against my 58" Lil Creep. I wonder if the bow was in a 50# or so weight if it would really feel that much different.
Check with Craig at Howard Hill Archery. When you come right down to it, there ain't much difference in a 58" and 60". I too have a 60" Hill Bear Cub for my grandson who is 8 years old. The Hill Bobcat will surprise you.
Danny
Steve Abbott builds a sweet little 58 incher, had one with bamboo limbs, great shooter. Got rid of it in a trade for a 68 ", just couldnt get used to the short length. :archer2:
I have a shorter one in the sponsor classifieds
David. If you have anything over a 25-inch draw a 58-inch Hill style bow is not going to be smooth. it will stack like all get out. There's a reason Craig doesn't build bows that short for adults. In a so called longbow, the only way to get some smoothness out of a bow that length is to go to a severe hybrid, something like a Shrew.
Head Orion. The whole thing about a longbow is IT'S A LONGBOW!
I resisted for the first two years of shooting. I now shoot a 64" with a 26 1/2" draw.
Look into the 60" Northern Mist, Baraga.
Smooth out to 29" for me.
Howard Hill archery can make a shorter reverse handled bow, but the the draw length still needs to be considered. I bet a shorter reversed string follow would be smooth and accurate.

firstly, "classic D shape longbow" can be had with a mild r/d. what ypu seem to be referring to is an
AFL - an american flat longbow, aka "howard hill style longbow".
why sure, a 58" afl absolutely can be, and has been, done. 'cept the draw length is about 24" at max. :D
click on the first link in my sig line to know more about longbow styles, bow lengths, and draw lengths.
here you go.... it can be done easy enough. But what kind of draw lengh do you have?

Side by side with a Hill bow.

Kirk, that looks like a dandy! I'm impressed ... again.
my friend has a 30 inch draw and has a 68 inch hill ilet him shoot my 70 " hill he said hey i dont feel finger pinch with your bow and it feels lighter!it was 5 lbs heavier at his draw .nothing new here its all been worked out probably thousands of yrs ago.the other ephiphany is the bow too heavy to shoot i fell for that one myself.there are a lot of nice hybrids out there that would work great imho

There absolutely no reason in the world to have finger pinch at 30" on a 68" bow.....
Quotenothing new here its all been worked out probably thousands of yrs ago.
Now THAT is funny... :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
if you believe that i got some beach front property in Utah i'll sell you... :biglaugh:
WHAT CAN I SAY HES GOT LONG ARMS AND HE REALLY WANTS A 72 "HILL
Its not exactly a Hill Style Bow. But here is a link to my 61 Inch tip-to-tip Red Chavez Bitteroot Longbow. 62#@28. ( 59 inch string groove to string groove) Draws smooth as butter, no stacking that I can feel.

Riley, That is a good looking bow there. I'd love to see a picture of that one at full draw.
Judging from the looks of those limbs and the location of the working portion, I'll bet that thing really smokes an arrow too. :clapper:
kirk, its no slouch, thats for sure. As soon as I get my camera working again I will post a pic at full draw.
Best regards
I would give Jd Berry a call and get a vixen. Its an American longbow. Very smoooooooth and the best craftsmanship bare none.
