Just started shooting trad, and I'm shooting a Sage with plans to upgrade soon. Right now I'm at 45lb limbs, but I only have a 27" DL.
I found a deal on some Griz Stick Alaskans thinking that I would be ok to use them,if not on this bow, then on a heavier bow later. They are approx. 450 gr. with no tip. They are about an inch too long, so I need to have them cut, and they also have a 75gr insert in them. I was told that I need to shoot a 400-500gr arrow including tip out of the Sage with my DL. These are 11/32" diameter and heavy. I'm not used to shooting a shaft that size, and I am just using 100 gr. tips for 550gr total approx. They fly way different than my CE Predator IIs with 150gr tips.
All that to ask, I know they are good shafts, but is this setup just way to heavy to shoot out of that light of a bow?
Will these shafts be ok to shoot out of say a 50lb bow, which I will move up to in the next couple of months?

Hello TC, Welcome to TG. Do not cut your Alaskans down. Tuning will dictate the length of your finished arrow, not draw length. Those shafts are pretty stiff for #45 or even #50. My guess is you will need a heavy point to get them to tune. 250 or so. You would be a lot closer with a 500 spine shaft. Gt 35/55 for one. Read as many threads on tuning as you can and you'll get a better feel for where to start.

The set up is not too heavy to shoot out of the lightweight bow. You will just have more arrow trajectory to deal with out past 20 yards. More importantly, the arrows may be too stiff to get tuned properly.
I think they will be right on the edge for dynamic spine out of the 50# bow. I would not cut them off. That extra inch may decrease the dynamic spine enough to get them tuned. It is much easier to cut them shorter, than make them longer. Good arrrow flight is more important than, perfect arrow length.
I've had GS Alaskans and Sitka. They are/will be too stiff for you. A good deal is only good if it works for you, these most probably will not. I'd pass.
I think the Alaskans would be too stiff unless you really put something heavy on the front end of them like 300 grains or so.
I agree, the Alaskans will be way too stiff, although the full length taper does make it more forgiving (for me).
Weight wise, they are not too heavy. You are right on there, but from a spine perspective you may be doing yourself a disservice.

Find something that really works well in your bow only then is it a bargain, as others have said those Alaskans are not right for your set up.
Your total weight would end up ok..maybe a but heavy but it's your preference.
Have no idea about spine as I shoot wood.
Personally I'd shoot a lighter actual weight shaft and get the extra weight from the point.
