I wanted to see if anyone else can tell the difference between these bows.

God bless,Mudd
the volume was pretty hard to here, but from what i could tell.
quietest-selfbow,sinew backed
next quietest-bamboo backed osage
noisiest-glass osage
maybe try it a little closer to camera for more volume.
Hey Mudd,
Cool video buddy. Too bad you do not have a decimeter. That would give you difinative data. However, going form the speakers on my puter, I believe the quietest bow you shot was the middle one, your sinew backed selfbow you recently rediscovered.
Bob.
All sounded pretty close to me......with wool puffs they would most likely be almost silent! IMHO!
Mudd,
Even a deaf guy like me can tell your non-glass bows are much quieter.
Thanks for the vid brother!
I had my head phones on and the sinew backed Osage seemed the quietest to me followed by the Hill then the bamboo backed Osage. Like Ron said all 3 would be be silent with some silencers.
I'm with Matt. Sinew backed seemed quieter to me as well.
Second bow was the quietest.
Mudd - All 3 sounded pretty quiet on my computer. Hard to tell though. What do you say?
Sinew backed had the least string noise .
It however seemed to have a bit of noise from the arrow hitting the shelf or side. Fix that and it would be the quietest.
The first bow seemed quiet till I heard the second bow. Quite a swish and hum from the string.
Third bow had some string noise but also seemed to have a bit of a "knock" after the shot when the limbs stopped.
Thanks for a chance to see some nice bows being shot.

The one in the middle. They all sounded pretty good. What ron w said also.
I thought all 3 were loud.
I will try using arrows that each bow likes as well as putting the regular string back on the Osage Royale and re-test.
God bless,Mudd
In my opinion (with my ears)the sinew backed Osage seemed quieter but slower or sounded like a longer stroke to me. The Bamboo backed Osage sounded just a couple of hairs louder and faster. The least quiet the glass backed Osage. Would like to hear the difference with some hair or wool silencers.
#2 bow the sinew backed was the quietest followed by the bamboo backed and the the 1st bow the glass bow. Enjoyed the video also. Look forward to test #2.
Sinew backed was quietest hands down. Bamboo next best and the glass seemed noticeably louder than the other 2
Mudd you can buy a decimeter for $29 at Radio Shack.
Thanks Matt.
Now all I need is an extra 29 bucks....lol
I think if I had the extra money I'd spend it on something truly archery related and continue to trust my senses to let me know what's quiet enough.
God bless,Mudd
PS: I have to wait for the weather to get better before I can continue testing.
2nd bow was the quietest in my opinion
To my ears, bow #2 was the quietest.
I would agree that the second bow (sinew) was the quietest followed by the bamboo backed. However the difference was next to nothing IMO. Thanks for sharing.
I agree with Zradix, The second bow was the quietest and the noise seemed more from the rest/side plate than from the string. A quiter rest and that bow would be silent.
sinew
bamboo
glass
I could hear either arrow slap, arm guard slap, or both on all three, which made it tough to distinguish between them.
Other than the slap/click, they all sounded pretty quiet.
Rick
For bows with no string silencers, I thought they all did well. The second was probably best but with some silencers they would really be whisper quiet. What was the weight of the arrows?
I honestly didnt hear a whole bunch of difference. They all sounded pretty darn quiet to me, I think your safe to leave the string silencers off any one of those bows.
Mudd, the next time I am in town for a couple of days we can get together and I have access to a high dollar decimeter and we can find out for sure.
Mudd! I turned the speakers up on the iPad ,then turned the speakers up on my decimeters(hearing aids) and my thoughts are for bow #2 to being the quietest. Great job on the vedio! Maxx
What Drewsbow said! Purtiest one too!!
Mudd - I think the sinew/osage bow was easily the quietest.
Maybe I'm full of it here, but it looked like sinew/osage bow had a shorter length and higher brace height. Am I wrong? That could be the reason why the sinew/osage is quieter.
On the bows I've built, higher brace = quieter and shorter length + higher brace = quietest.
Second one....... :)
Glass bow had a noticeable "twang." The 2 wood bows are where it's at.
The sinew backed bow was the quietest, followed by the bamboo backed bow and the glass backed one came in last. The glass backed bow wasn't bad, especially since it didn't have string silencers.
Roy I didn't hear a whole lot of difference between the three. I'm going to agree with Rick in that I think what you can hear on the video is coming from either your armguard or the arrow going across the strike plate/rest.
Brad
Exactly what Zradix said. Thanks for letting us see those fine bows!
wulf
That was tough to tell. I'm interested, those bows sure are nice!!
Sinew backed quiet but like someone said, with silencers and tuned arrows all would be DEADLY quiet
2nd was quietest for sure ;)
#2 sinew backed ... then #1, and last is #3
Nice video Mudd, the Osage royal sounded the quietest to me then the sinew backed.
I vote you get rid of the trash barrel bow holder.
I cringed, and I just knew as soon as I saw it that one of your bows would end up on the ground. Cool video none the less. Glen
They are all very quiet. That said the sinew backed osage bow was definately the quietest, with the glass bow and bamboo backed osage bow just about tying for second.
