Title: South Dakota Turkey
Post by: rraming on February 23, 2012, 02:03:00 PM
OK I can make this happen this year, don't mind paying an outfitter or for access if they have birds, think I am allowed two tags and have never been successful in my own state. Can anyone guide me in the correct direction. The farther east in the state, the closer it is for me. Thanks

My recomendation would be to hunt around Hill City which is in the Black hills.  thousands of acres of public ground no need to get a guide or pay for access.  I have hunted the Black Hills 10 times and have found the hunting here to be relativly easy, birds gobble great and not hard to get away from pressure if you are willing to walk.  To keep the price down you can camp at many places although if you are married with kids I would recomend bringing the family and making it a family vacation, plenty to do including Mt Rushmore, Custard State Park, the badlans, Deadwood etc.  You can hunt all day which makes it nice you are not limited to just a morning hunt.
