I've been selling my original shallow D/R design since 2006. Some very nice customers have bought them from me and have given me good feedback on them. But, since I started building bows I've learn a few things. Particularly since I made that form 7 years ago. (BTW it was the first longbow form I ever made) Anyhow, I dreamed up a new (to me) design for the new Maddog longbow. There's less timber in the riser and more reflex in the limb tips. Here's some pictures of the prototype.

This one, has a riser constructed from maple, walnut, and bolivian rosewood stripes, it's 64" long, 54# @ 28", maple and bamboo in the limbs.
This longbow is available in lengths from 62" - 68", and the price will start at $425 for bows with colored fiberglass.
Really cool lines to that bow! How does it shoot compared to your other design for comparison sake?
Super nice Mike!!
God bless,Mudd
I forgot to talk performance. I don't have any methods to measure speed. But here's one thought I had behind the design; more reflex in the tips, meant I can get the same draw weight with a thinner limb. Thinner limb = less mass. The first thing I noticed compared to my old design, was the physical wieght is less, and the draw more consistant, the speed was noticably better, but the thing that stood out the most was how, with the same arrows, the new design got about 3" more penetration in the hay bales that the old design of a few pounds more in draw weight. Not really up-to-date speed measuring like folks want, and a bit backwoods, but still results.
Mike it is my belief that speed does more killing on the highway than in the woods anyway.
I'll take penetration over speed any day.... and above all else.. quiet!!
God bless,Mudd
Good looking long bow. I like the way you compare performance by looking at how far the arrows penetrate the hay bales. Sounds like pretty good data to me!
Do you plan to continue to offer the older, more shallow R/D design in the future?
One of the reasons I redesigned things was my form was getting pretty trashed. So I'm just going to use this new form now. Otherwise I'll have to make another form like the old one.
Nice looking design & sounds reasonably priced as well.
I like it!
Very good looking lines on that bow Mike.
A bit more reflex in the tips helps the bow store more energy and gives it better pre-load and early weight in the draw. The way you kept that nice smooth sweep to your limb with the reflex right at the tips is down right sexy looking.
Once again.... Nicely done brutha!
Where is the sweet spot on brace height on her?
Nicely done Mike!
Well. I am excited as heck to get my new one. A great looking bow for sure. God BLess
Great looking bow Mike! I like that design real well. Look forward to seeing some in different wood configurations. :clapper:
I don't know it looks pretty good but you better send it to me to compare to mine.I'll send back the one lesser of the two.May take awhile to decide.
Kirk I think the brace ht. ended up around 7 1/4" I forgot to measure.
Can you tell us what your delivery time is on this new bow?
Very nice looking bow Mike
Nice Mike - you know those pics are not even close to the 640 limit. :D
Mike, Great looking bow. Wonder if the one I order from you a couple of weeks ago will have the new style? Hope so, looks good and I still love my MUTT.
I tell customers to expect a wait time of 10 - 14 weeks. Sometimes I get it done sooner, and sometimes a few days too late. Kurt yours will be of this design.
looks very close to the profile of my economical archery longbow. if its anything like my bow its going to be a fast awsome shooting bow
So does that mean my Mad Dog is a classic?? Oh, and Mike, were those hay bales fresh or falling apart? just kidding
Brian, wasn't that one I made you a midsize? Those bales are used, but I rotate them and they are wet too. I had a 3/d deer but I shot it in half in less than a year.
Very nice!!!!!!!
Tremendous! Thinner "narrower" limbs re Hill/style? You won't be slowing down like that! Very nice!
