Title: Hat question
Post by: kykiller on February 23, 2012, 10:29:00 AM
Anybody have one of these?  Do they really keep there shape?  Is the brim soft enough not to affect draw?

I have two of them, the first one didn't keep its shape what so ever and shrunk badly... The second one I bought bigger and didn't wear it enough to see if it will end up like the other one.... And yes the brim is soft  enough!
Over all it is a nice hat, if you don't care of what it might end up looking !!

Did it shrink so much that it didn't fit?

I can still wear it, it just look different!! It seems like it didn't shrink  on its diameter, but in depth???
I still use it!

I also ordered this exact one and supposed to get it today actually.  I am curious to see how it holds its shape as well.

Let me know how you like it.  I'm thinking about getting one myself.

I've had mine for over a year and it is a good hat. a bit warm for warmer temps, but no problems at all with it. keeps its shape and hasn't shrunk yet. its been wet a few times too. ???

Kykiller, I've not had that particular hat, but like howler said I have found that felt hats are a little warm some times especially if you are moving a bit  :wavey:    :campfire:

A fur felt is much, much better. Lighter, and less likely to shrink when wet. The wool felt gets really heavy when wet and will slide down over you eyes and ears. As mongoose says they can get too warm. Also look at Bailey or Stetson hats.

I have one like that, a crusher hat, very similar, I got it from noggin tops  Pretty much the same cover though.  My bow string gets it outta the way when I draw it back.

I did get mine from 3 rivers and it is nice now to see if it holds up but I am pleased.  Mike I really like that one.  Which one is that?

I got it from Noggin tops, it's called  4 seasons crushable outback.  The one from 3 rivers is about the same and at a better price.

All these hats are 100% wool.I have a few and they all shrink after awhile. They have water repelent on them, which does not last forever.I always buy a little larger and put the soft side of velcro in the brim, that way I get a perfect fit.Stetson has a few with 2 1/2 brim, I have been wearing the "expedition", got it on **** $30.They are crushable hats ,and will come back to the original shape for a while. They are different in that other hats are "stiff".The crushable Stetson,s are great shooting hats.2 1/2 brim or less !Also not all smalls or m,large are the same size !

I wear a Borsalino traveler. its a crusher and holds its shape very well is light and the 2.25" brim is soft and doesn't effect my shot at all. Been wet a couple of times no shrinkage so far. I'll post a picture when I get one.
