I have to get out of here next winter for a hunt. I believe Kent is offering just what I want, and a price I can afford.
His website don't say too much.
I want a non-guided hunt. Is his un-guided? It sounds like he just tells you where to go, and your off. That is what I want. I want to spot, find, and stalk my own javi. I don't want no-one over my shoulder, or holding my hand.
Can you shoot 1 javi or 2?
Rabbit and coyote hunting allowed with the proper license?
How was your experience hunting his ranch(s)?
Thanks for any info.
Send Ang (the owner of Bison Gear) an email or give him a call. He went last year with some traditional guys. Do a search also and I think you will turn up a little more info. Good luck to you sir!
I spoke with Denny Sturgis while up at K-Zoo about this. He said Kent does provide a good hunt.
I think your best bet is to just give Kent a call. Super nice guy to talk to and he isn't the pushy salesman sort.
I went twice. Every day Kent assigns you a big area to hunt. Unless you ask him to go he stays at camp all day. You can move to different areas as long as no one else is there and Kent is informed. You sleep in a heated metal building, it has a bathroom and cooking area you can prepare your own meal. You can shoot two javis and all small game legal for texas. It is a beautiful ranch and a great experiance.Kent is a great person to deal with, he is very friendly.
I hunted there 3 years ago and the group I hunt with is going back next winter. It is a very unique ranch to hunt and Kent is a good host. The ranch owner and his son are great people to visit with, lots of stories about the area. I would recommend the hunt.
I spoke with Kent last summer about going, plans fell throug so I didn't go on the hunt. That be said, Kent was pleasant to talk to and a straight shooter. I will be doing that hunt sometime in the future.
Never been, but heard what you have been hearing here for years.
Not much info found in my search of old threads. All good positive stuff though.
How is Jan or Feb for the hunting? I would have to go one of those months and not later because of calving and lambing in March, April, and May.
Anyone hunt there this past Jan?
Thanks for the info. Sounds very enjoyable!
Will be watching this one, this one has been on my bucket list for a long time now, Todd
I haven't made his Texas hunt, but did hunt with him in New Mexico when he offered that option. Great person to deal with.

I've been twice,07&08. 1st hunt I was in camp with TJ Conrads and G Fred. There is an article on that hunt in the Apr/May 08 issue of TBM titled "On The Border". 2nd hunt I took a couple of Carolina buddies with me and all had a blast. Ken is a very personable man and bowmaking will be discussed, count on it!
A group of us hunted the West Texas ranch the 2nd year it was opened to hunting. Most of us never saw a javie and there were no shots. Guess thats why they call it hunting.
I went on one of Kent's hunts several years ago. As was mentioned above we each had our own area to hunt and could hunt that area however we chose. We were there in March, our group got one and everyone had plenty of action. It was a great time and Kent did everything he could to help out. I'd like to go again sometime.

Thanks for the replys and pm's everyone. I will be booking a hunt with Kent. Sounds like this is my cup of tea.
This would have been the week to go. This is the 4th day in a row our interstate and roads around town here are closed due to bad weather. Power went out last night and I never got hang out here on TG. :banghead:
Shedrock,
I just got in from shooting the bow and looked at Wydot and saw that all the roads around Buffalo were closed. Boy, I sure hate being down here in Arizona for a while. These 70 degree days can really get to you! :bigsmyl:
Rub it in sir!
Are you doing some hunting while your down there? Coues deer or javis? You have fun!
Any one else hunt with Kent? Keep some stories coming. I left a message with Kent, no reply yet.
I hunted with him in 2009. We had a great hunt 9 javies for 10 guys, Kent said that was his best hunt ever. We had a great time and saw lots of javies. He has a very nice set up for sleeping/eating and every thing else. I think season ends for javies the end of Feb.

I shot one his bows today. First one I had seen in a long time. Pretty nice. Does not help you much with the hunting side though.
