I was watching the Masters of the Barebow dvd last night and I need to build some type of large target to shoot into. I just have no idea what to use or where to buy it. Has anybody done this and if so what do you use and where did you get it? thx
-
I built a target that is wood frame and basically a big bag target. The front of mine is the size of the burlap animal targets you can buy. I like to have the target at more eye level, so it is on a stand of wood. When I get home this evening I will post some photos of the target for you. I used an older bage target and other things to stuff it full. I used black lanscape material for the outside wrapping to hold everything in.

thx dragonheart. a buddy of mine gave me a big target frame but it would take a running ton of stuff to fill it in. I thought about used carpet or something but not sure how that would work. I was gonna try and make something up off the ground in front of a big bank I have in my front yard. If I miss the whole bank I'll just quit. lol

If you are using it for 'Blind Bale', then a good size bag target will do the trick. I have one suspended from an A frame I made out of 2 x 4s.

thats a good thought Rick. thx man. If you'd seen me shoot before though you might say I need something a lot bigger. :D

Yep, a large square U-stuff it target will work. Can fill it with plastic bags, wrapping, etc. for use outside (won't rot). Can also be used inside. Outside, can just hang it from a tree limb or set it on top of some kind of structure. Inside, I hang mine from my floor joists.
For blind bale shooting, you stand real close to the target, like a few yards. Should be able to hit it from there with your eyes closed. Good luck.

Like Orion said "stand close".

I used 2 bag targets for the last Rod Jenkins Clinic and covered them with heavy black garbage bags. The garbage bags lasted 2 days of 10 folks shooting into them. I'm still using the same frame now but have one end tied to a cinder block to balance it out

thx guys. I'll check around online and see what I can come up with. I'll definitely have to stand inside of 5 yards. I dont think Im gonna shoot a trad bow again with my eyes open til at least April.

The best target I have used was free!! come trash day go looken for old couches and chairs and grab the cushions. They are great for shooten and can take a lot of shots. Put to together with duct tape around the edges and you can hang it if ya want.

thx lp !!!! thats a great idea but around here thats still usable. lol

Here is a photo of the one I built. Basically uprights, building a box to put the bag target in. Cover the front and back with carpet or the black landscape material, I used a stapler to attach the carpet. Stuff with Walmart bags, reminats of an old bag target and a bag target, old coats, etc in it. I put the burlap target on there, but if you leave just the carpet, it simulates hair on an animal and forces you to pick a spot.

Brad that picture is priceless.

Boho my friend, my favorite way to blind bale now is to use judo points, close my eyes, and just shoot 3 arrows across the yard, go pick them up and shoot back the other way. The lack of noise from arrow impact immediately after release seems to help me focus more on my form and follow through. As you know, I live in the middle of nowhere and have lots room. If you live in town or suburbia this might not be a wise choice unless you have a big yard.

Got some burlap bags and stuffed 'em with plastic bags over time. Works great and cheap. Big enough but maybe not with eyes closed.

thx so much for the pics and replies guys. I now know of 2 ways I can make something up to work.
Swine, I never thought of that but I will try it as soon as I get a chance. Im pretty sure I have a couple judos in the bow box. Thanks bud

haha I dont ever shoot broadheads until September and I have a broadhead target for that. Also dont shoot fp's in a broadhead target !! They are a monster to pull out. I am gonna do some testing with my grim reaper heads this spring but this is only a test. :D
